Abstract: A three dimensional glass ceramic article with a thickness between 0.1 mm and 2 mm, having a dimensional precision control of less than or equal to ±0.1 mm. A method for forming a three dimensional glass ceramic article including placing a nucleated glass article into a mold, and heating the nucleated glass article to a crystallization temperature, where the nucleated glass article is in the mold during the heating. Then, holding the nucleated glass article at the crystallization temperature for a duration sufficient to crystallize the nucleated glass article and form a three dimensional glass ceramic article, where the nucleated glass article is in the mold during the holding, and removing the three dimensional glass ceramic article from the mold.

Abstract: Methods of manufacturing a glass-based article includes exposing a glass-based substrate having a lithium aluminosilicate composition to an ion exchange treatment to form the glass-based article. The ion exchange treatment including a molten salt bath having a concentration of a sodium salt in a range from 8 mol % to 100 mol %. The glass-based article includes sodium having a non-zero varying concentration extending from a surface of the glass-based article to a depth of the glass-based article The glass-based article has compressive stress layer extending from the surface to a spike depth of layer from 4 micrometers to 8 micrometers. The glass-based article includes a molar ratio of potassium oxide (K2O) to sodium oxide (Na2O) averaged over a distance from the surface to a depth of 0.4 micrometers that is greater than or equal to 0 and less than or equal to 1.8.

A glass-based article comprises a lithium aluminosilicate composition and a molar ratio of potassium oxide (K2O) to sodium oxide (Na2O) averaged over a distance from the surface to a depth of 0.4 micrometers that is greater than or equal to 0 and less than or equal to 1.8. The article comprises sodium having a non-zero varying concentration extending from a surface of the glass-based article to a depth of the glass-based article and a spike depth of layer that is greater than or equal to 4 micrometers and less than or equal to 8 micrometers. The article may comprise an average compressive stress of greater than or equal to 150 MPa over a depth from 15 micrometers to 40 micrometers.

Abstract: A transparent article is described herein that includes: a glass-ceramic substrate comprising first and second primary surfaces opposing one another and a crystallinity of at least 40% by weight; and an optical film structure disposed on the first primary surface. The optical film structure comprises a plurality of alternating high refractive index (RI) and low RI layers and a scratch-resistant layer. The article also exhibits an average photopic transmittance of greater than 80% and a maximum hardness of greater than 10 GPa, as measured by a Berkovich Hardness Test over an indentation depth range from about 100 nm to about 500 nm. The glass-ceramic substrate comprises an elastic modulus of greater than 85 GPa and a fracture toughness of greater than 0.8 MPa·√m. Further, the optical film structure exhibits a residual compressive stress of ≥700 MPa and an elastic modulus of ≥140 GPa.

Abstract: A method of reworking lithium containing ion exchanged glass articles is provided. The method includes a reverse ion exchange process that returns the glass article to approximately the composition of the glass from which the glass article was produced, before being subjected to ion exchange. The reworked glass articles exhibit a K2O concentration profile comprising a portion wherein a K2O concentration increases to a local K2O concentration maximum.

Abstract: A method for determining crystal phases of a glass ceramic sample, including the steps of applying energy to the sample using an excitation source, detecting raw Raman spectral energy that is given off by the sample using a detector, wherein the raw Raman spectral energy includes peak values, determining a plurality of predetermined energy peaks based off a composition of the sample, superimposing the plurality of predetermined energy peaks over the raw Raman spectral energy, applying a baseline value between each predetermined energy peak, subtracting the baseline value from the raw Raman spectral energy, calculating corrected peak values based on the raw Raman spectral energy and baseline value, and determining the crystal phases of the glass ceramic sample based on the corrected peak values.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein include systems and methods for controlling material warp that include placing the shaped mold in a heating device, forming a glass material into a shaped mold, and cooling the glass material and the shaped mold to a predetermined viscosity of the glass material. Some embodiments include, a predetermined time prior to removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device, holding the glass at the mold in the heating device where the heating device temperature is substantially equal to mold and glass temperature just prior to exiting to ambient temperature. Some embodiments include removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device to further cool the glass material and the shaped mold at ambient temperature, where after removing the glass material and the shaped mold from the heating device, the glass material will exhibit controlled or desired material warp.

Abstract: Methods for regenerating poisoned salt bath comprising providing a salt bath comprising at least one of KNO3 and NaNO3, providing an ion-exchangeable substrate comprising lithium cations, contacting at least a portion of the ion-exchangeable substrate with the salt bath, whereby lithium cations in the salt bath diffuse from the ion-exchangeable substrate and are dissolved in the salt bath, and selectively precipitating dissolved lithium cations from the salt bath using phosphate salt. The methods further include preventing or reducing the formation of surface defects in the ion-exchangeable substrate by preventing or reducing the formation of crystals on the surface of the ion-exchangeable substrate upon removal from the salt bath.
