The control module has a receiver for receiving a remote signal and a firing controller for generating a firing signal in response to the remote signal. The seabed seismic source apparatus further includes at least one seismoacoustic source module adapted for deployment at the seabed with the control module. The seismoacoustic source module has a seismoacoustic source for generating a seismic signal and a firing device for firing the seismoacoustic source to generate the seismic signal. The seabed seismic source apparatus further includes a transmission link between the firing controller and the firing device, wherein the firing device fires the seismoacoustic source upon receiving the firing signal generated by the firing controller.

    摘要: The disclosure has application for use in conjunction with an operation of drilling an earth borehole using: a drilling rig, a drill string having its generally upper end mechanically coupleable with and suspendable from the drilling rig, and a bottom hole assembly adjacent the lower end the drill string, the bottom hole assembly including a drill bit at its lower end. A method is set forth for obtaining information about at least one parameter sensed at the bottom hole assembly, including the following steps: providing at least one measuring device in the bottom hole assembly, the at least one measuring device producing measurement data representative of a measured condition at the bottom hole assembly; providing an uphole processor system at the earth's surface; providing a drill string telemetry system coupled with the at least one measuring device and coupled with the uphole processor system; and transmitting the data from the measuring device to the uphole processor system via the drill string telemetry system.

A request module receives a connection request to establish redundant connection paths between a control unit and a host. A primary connection module establishes a first connection path between the control unit and the host through a first communication channel. A detection module detects a failure of the first connection path.     摘要: An apparatus for communication with a downhole tool includes uphole and downhole equipment. The uphole equipment includes a signal source (or array) coupled to a programmable triggering system and a precision clock. Optionally, the uphole equipment may include receivers for capturing reference signals near the source and may include telemetry equipment for receiving MWD signals from the downhole equipment. The downhole equipment includes one or more receivers, signal processing equipment, memory, and a precision clock. Optionally, the downhole equipment also includes MWD telemetry equipment for transmitting data to the surface. The methods of the invention include, but are not limited to, synchronizing the recordation of signals detected downhole with the firing of the signal source and processing the recorded signals to eliminate useless information. The methods of the invention present several techniques for true source signal recognition whereby actual signal information is extracted from the recordings of the receivers so that the ultimate stored data is compact and virtually 100% useful. This elimination of useless data conserves valuable telemetry time and/or enables longer operation of the apparatus before tripping out to retrieve stored data by using memory efficiently.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for making directional measurements of earth formations surrounding a borehole. New antenna coil shield designs are utilized to provide selective attenuation of at least one electromagnetic energy field component as the component interacts with the shield. The new shields are implemented in several downhole tool configurations to provide azimuthally focused formation measurements. In effect, the new shield filters interacting electromagnetic energy field components to pass those components corresponding to a magnetic dipole oriented at an angle from the tool axis. The shields thereby alter a coil's envelope of influence to electromagnetic energy. The new shields also form part of a system for making directional measurements while drilling.

    摘要: A logging-while-drilling system is disclosed in which a first subassembly is included near the drill bit, and this subassembly comprises a conducting body with measuring means disposed in it and a first toroidal coil antenna disposed on the body, means for coupling a local communication signal generated from the measuring means to the first toroidal coil antenna, and where the measuring means includes means to energize the first toroidal coil antenna with a measurement signal and means mounted on the conductive body to receive the measurement signal after it passes through the formations to be measured. The system further includes a second subassembly near the drill bit which includes a second conducting body with a second toroidal coil antenna mounted on it and means to receive the local communication signal through the second toroidal coil and means to generate a surface communication signal from the local communication signal and transmit it through an acoustic transmitter to the surface, where it is received by an acoustic receiver.
