Abstract: This application provides a communication method and a communication apparatus. In the method, after a DU sends a first handover message to a terminal device, the DU receives a second handover message from a CU, where the first handover message indicates to hand over the terminal device from a source cell to a first target cell in a first manner, the first manner includes an L1 and/or L2-based cell handover manner, the second handover message indicates to hand over the terminal device from the source cell to a second target cell in a second manner, and the second manner includes an L3-based cell handover manner. The DU determines that a cell handover manner of the terminal device is the first manner or the second manner.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a multi-connectivity communication method and a device. An access network device of an LTE network sets up a second connection for UE and splits data of the UE through the second connection. The second connection is a connection set up between the UE and the access network device of the LTE network through an access network device of a next generation network. Therefore, dual connectivity between the UE and the LTE network and the next generation network is implemented, a data transmission rate of the UE is increased, and a throughput of the entire network can be increased.
