摘要:
A technology is disclosed for efficiently and effectively conveying location and mobility related information about a mobile node to the network in order to facilitate Location and mobility related functions and services. According to this technology, in order to detect location and mobility (for example, movement velocity) of the mobile node, dissemination of information including the identification information of the mobile node and the count metric indicating the distance to the mobile node is performed among adjacent network nodes. The network node, upon receiving this message, stores the information in the message, and generates a new count metric by decreasing the count metric. The network node then sends the message including the identification information of the mobile node and this newly generated count metric to the other network nodes. For example the network node determines the priority of resource reservation for each mobile node based on the count metric of each mobile node.

A technology is disclosed for reducing the burst of DAD messages which may be triggered due to the change of the network prefix when using the technique of the neighbor discovery proxy. According to this technology, in roaming from the access network link 101 to the access network link 102, MR 121 receives advertisement of a new prefix 172 from AR 112. MR 121 selects either one of MR 122 and MR 123 which are connected behind MR 121, and informs, for example only MR 122, that it is necessary to change the prefix. Thus, MR 122 and VMN 132 which is connected to the link 142 behind MR 122, configure new addresses, respectively. When address configuration is completed at the mobile network of MR 122, MR 121 informs another MR 123 that it is necessary to change the prefix, and then MR 123 and VMN 133 configure new addresses, respectively. This can prevent DAD messages generated along with the address configuration from flocking in a short period.

Route optimization between a mobile network and correspondent node may be achieved by having the mobile router of the mobile network sending prefix-scoped binding update messages to the correspondent node. In order to allow the recipient of a prefix-scoped binding update message to verify the mobile network prefix information contained in the said prefix-scoped binding update message, the present invention provides a system, and associated methods and apparatus thereof, of using special cryptographic certificates to prove the ownership of the network prefixes. The certificates, or parameters derived from the certificates, are transmitted alongside the network prefix in the binding update message sent to the correspondent node. By verifying the network prefix against the certificates, or parameters derived from the certificates, a correspondent node can determine the validity of a prefix-scoped binding update message.

Disclosed is a technique which enables a communication node connected to a router made to advertise a plurality of prefixes to use an address including an appropriate prefix. According to this technique, an MR (Mobile Router) (10) multicasts, to a mobile PAN (31), a router advertisement message including a prefix (MNPNEMO) derived from a home network to which it pertains, a prefix (MNPAR) advertised from an AR (access router) (10a) and prefix choice information indicative of one of the prefixes to be selected on the basis of a function relative to the mobile PAN (31). A node (VN 20a, LN 20b) connected to the mobile PAN refers to the prefix choice information of the router advertisement message so as to select a prefix appropriate thereto for configuring its own global address.

In order to verify if upper-level router information, or ULRI (information on the upper-level router with respect to a predetermined node) is valid, MN (Mobile Node) 220 associated to ULMR (Upper-Level Mobile Router) 210 acquires ULRI such as the address of ULMR (310), inserts ULRI into a BU (Binding Update) message, and sends it to HA (Home Agent) 235 (320). On receiving the BU message with ULRI, HA sends a BA (Binding Acknowledgement) message set to pass through the router that is specified in ULRI (330). If ULRI is valid, ULMR forwards the BA message to MN (340). If ULRI is not valid, ULMR discards the BA message.

When a mobile host or mobile router in nested mobile network is roaming in a domain with multiple mobility anchor points, if the mobile host or mobile router in the nested mobile network tree path chooses different mobility anchor points to derive its regional care-of address, routing sub-optimality may occur. To overcome such routing sub-optimality, this invention presents two main methods. The first method is where the mobile router detects that a downstream node in its tree path has derived a regional care-of address from another mobility anchor point, and will make appropriate on-demand duplicate registration at the other mobility anchorpoint. The second method is such that the mobile router informs its own mobility anchor point of other mobility anchor point addresses, so that the mobile router's mobility anchor point will pass the location entries of the mobile router to the other mobility anchor points.

In a future scenario where end to end route optimization protocol such as the Access Router Option protocol and Hierarchical Mobility Management protocol are implemented in the visiting mobile nodes, mobile routers and the mobility anchor points, routing sub-optimality may occur when visiting mobile node that is nested is trying to communicate with the correspondent node. To overcome such routing sub-optimality arising in this heterogeneous protocol scenario, this invention presents a primary mechanism where the registration at the mobility anchor point is such that the local care-of address associated with visiting mobile node and local care-of addresses associated with upstream mobile routers of the visiting mobile node can be obtained using a single access router option protocol type of recursive tracing mechanism. Such tracing is achieved by embedding a different type of address in the access router option based binding registration at the mobility anchor point.

The present invention provides a system and method for achieving fast and efficient location management signaling between a mobile node, which is nested in a mobile network for possibly long periods of time, and a plurality of correspondent nodes and home agents associated with the said mobile node. More particularly, the present invention relates to attaining fast and efficient location management signaling by means of secure delegation of signaling rights to some trusted signaling proxy server in the fixed domain, which does the location management signaling for the mobile node as a signaling proxy for the mobile node. This signaling proxy server discovered is such that it is in the natural path of the care-of test packets and also be able to send the care-of test init packets using MN's care-of address overcoming ingress filtering.

A technology is disclosed for achieving fast and reliable handover. According to this technology, in the network composition where a network coverage area of the cellular base station 105 and network coverage areas of plural WLAN AP (Wireless LAN access point) 110, 115, 120 and 130 overlaps, the roaming mobile node (mobile terminal) 100 stores the listened beacon information from each WLAN AP. The mobile node can promptly perform the handover procedures without waiting for listening to the next beacon by acquiring the beacon information of WLAN AP which is a handover target from the stored information at the instant of determining to do handover to a new WLAN AP. Furthermore, the mobile node can store information on stability of the network connection if it would be connected to each WLAN AP, and determine which WLAN AP is suitable for a handover target by considering the stability.

A technology is disclosed for certainly performing dynamic routing and error checking processes in the mobile network. According to this technology, the home agent sets up a Binding Acknowledgement message with a smaller Lifetime value when receiving a Binding Update message from a mobile router. During this smaller Lifetime, the mobile router can send a Routing Update message to the home agent. Thus, the home agent, for example, can check consistency of prefix information specified in the Biding Update with route installed by the Routing Update message. The present invention can be applied to both two distinct modes (explicit mode and implicit mode) that prefix information is specified in the Binding Update or not.
