The computer system of this invention has the host computers, the storage systems and the storage management server. When parallelly migrating two or more volumes of data in the storage systems to the same number of other volumes, the storage management server selects volumes having few physical conflicts of the controllers or storage devices in the storage systems and executes the parallel migration operation.

A route management module of the manager and its volume management module bring the policy and the properties of the volumes, and the policies and conditions of lines into conformity with one another. When any fault occurs in a line route used for data transfer during replication of the volume, a separate line route is utilized, and a fault countermeasure is taken for replication of the volumes in accordance with the policy and properties of the volumes.

In a cluster system including a plurality of operating systems operating on one computer, computer resources can be updated for and reallocated to each operating system. When the operating systems are used as active or standby operating systems, a multiple operating system management controller monitors the state of each operating system. At a failure of an active operating system, the controller allocates a larger part of computer resources to another operating system in a normal state and assigns the operating system as a new active operating system. Regardless of the failure, the computer system can be operated without changing processing capability thereof. The controller can monitor load of each operating system to allocate computer resources to the operating system according to the load.
