摘要： A liquid crystal display for displaying an image to be visible for a viewer, has a liquid crystal, a pair of electrodes for controlling an orientation of at least a part of the liquid crystal in accordance with an electric field between the electrodes, a light source for generating a light to be transmitted through the liquid crystal to the viewer, a pair of first and second polarizer plates, the first polarizer plate being arranged between the liquid crystal and the light source, and the second polarizer plate being arranged between the liquid crystal and the viewer, and a band-pass filter for absorbing a component of the light, a wave-length of which component is not more than 440 nm, and the band-pass filter being arranged between the light source and the viewer.

摘要： An in-plane switching active-matrix liquid crystal display device includes an alignment layer which is a photo-reactive material layer disposed between a liquid crystal layer and at least one of a pair of substrates of the display device. The display device includes at least one of (a) a tilt angle of 3° or less, (b) an extrapolation length of at least 10% of a gap between the pair of substrates, (c) a torsional anchoring coefficient A2 of an alignment layer surface for liquid crystal molecules at an inner face of the liquid crystal layer and the alignment layer which is not greater than 20 μN/m, and (d) the alignment layer is obtained by using as an acid moiety an acid hydride except for benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride.

摘要： A normally closed liquid crystal display device using an in-plane switching mode prevented from light leakage caused by spacer beads and having a high contrast ratio can be produced by making a pretilt angle between an alignment control film and liquid crystals 4° or less and controlling a light leakage centering the spacer in 4-divided shapes; or by placing a film provided with a liquid crystal alignment controlling function by irradiation with polarized light between the spacer and a liquid crystal layer, the spacer being present in a pair of substrates.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device has a pair of substrates, at least one of the substrates being transparent; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pair of substrates; and pixel electrodes and common electrodes and active elements arranged on at least one substrate between the pair of substrates, wherein a pair of alignment layers are made of an organic polymer of polyamic acid group of polyamide ester group having a relative imidization ration above 60%; or at least one layer of an insulation film is interposed between the alignment layer in a side of the substrate having the group of electrodes formed thereon, and the pixel electrode and the common electrode disposed under the alignment layer to prevent occurrence of the sticking image and the after image by flattening the electrode portions to moderate the electric field concentration.

An electric field in the liquid crystal layer produced by the plurality of electrodes is predominantly in parallel with surfaces of the pair of substrates. The light source has a luminous characteristic with a first chromaticity and the liquid crystal panel has a characteristic of spectral transmittance with a second chromaticity different from the first chromaticity so as to compensate for the color of the light source.

摘要： Realizing low driving voltage, high contrast, and high response speed in an active matrix type liquid crystal display device of the in-plane switching mode type. The construction of the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention comprises a pair of substrates whose spacing is determined by spacers placed in a non-displaying region, a liquid crystal layer filled in the space between said pair of substrates, a set of electrodes formed on the surface of one of the substrates of said pair of substrates for applying an electric field to said liquid crystal layer, and a pair of optical polarizers placed so that they enclose said liquid crystal layer and with their axes of polarization almost at right angles to each other, with the liquid crystal layer containing 40% or more weight percentage or 100% or less weight percentage of a constituent component with a dielectric anisotropy of &Dgr;∈≦1, the directions of controlled orientation of liquid crystal molecules at the two surfaces between said liquid crystal layer and said pair of substrates being almost parallel, and with the axis of polarization of one of the polarizers being almost aligned with the direction of controlled orientation of liquid crystal molecules at said surfaces.

A data line which is formed on the insulating layer and extends to form a data pad and a switching element having a gate connected to the gate line, a source connected to the data line and a drain connected to the pixel electrode.
