    摘要: A type of disc is judged at high reliability irrespective of a presence of information record or magnitude of disc eccentricity. A reproduction apparatus judges the type of an optical disc to reproduce information recorded on tracks of the optical disc. The disc is classified as a type of read-only optical discs whose tracks are formed with pits and as a type of recordable optical discs whose tracks are formed with wobbling grooves. The apparatus includes a motor which rotates the optical disc, a head which irradiates the tracks of the optical disc rotated by the motor with an optical beam and outputs two detection signals corresponding to reflected light from the optical disc, and a controller which judges the type of the optical disc according to changes of a period of a specific signal contained in a push-pull signal generated from the two detection signals by varying a rotating speed of the motor.

    摘要: A tracking control device for controlling a position of a beam spot formed by converging a light beam on a disk having tracks formed thereon includes: an actuator for moving the beam spot in a direction substantially perpendicular to the tracks; a tracking error detecting circuit for detecting a deviation of the beam spot from one of the tracks using the light beam returning from the disk and for outputting a tracking error signal indicative of the detected deviation; and a control circuit section for outputting a driving signal to drive the actuator in accordance with the tracking error signal so as to control the beam spot to be positioned on the one of the tracks. When the driving signal is saturated, the control circuit section obtains a saturation signal in accordance with an amount of the saturation, delays the saturation signal, and supplies the saturation signal to the actuator together with the driving signal.

    摘要: With a large capacity of an optical disk and high-speed recording, a frequency of a recording signal is increased and a pulse width is narrowed. In the case that a laser is driven by a signal having the short pulse width, unfortunately the high-speed recording is hardly performed to an optical disk when a rise time and a fall time of the optical pulse are lengthened. During user data recording, a bottom driving current is set to a second bottom driving current value that is a current value of a threshold or less, so that the rise time and the fall time of the optical pulse can be shortened to perform the high-speed recording of the optical disk.

    摘要: The output voltage of a cathode drive-type semiconductor laser driving circuit is set to a minimum, power consumption by a driving circuit portion is suppressed, and the heat that is generated by the optical head or the optical disc device is reduced. In addition to a conventional configuration, the semiconductor laser driving circuit of the invention measures the cathode voltage (Vout) of a semiconductor laser (1) and controls the anode voltage (Vld) such that the cathode voltage (Vout) becomes a predetermined level, and by doing so sets the output voltage of the semiconductor laser driving circuit to a predetermined level in order to curtail power consumption by the driving circuit and minimize the rise in temperature of the optical head or the optical disc device.
