Abstract:
Compositions for bonding plies at the heel end of a shoe comprise a polymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, water and an organic solvent in which the polymer is soluble at room temperature and which dissolves at least 3% of its own weight of water. Examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl acetate emulsion and (I to III) methyl ethyl ketone, (IV) acetone, (V) ethyl acetate and (VI) methyl acetate; and methyl ethyl ketone and emulsions of copolymers of (VII) ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile and acrylic acid, (VIII) vinyl acetate and methyl acrylate, and (IX) butyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate.
Abstract:
An adhesive comprises a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and a resinous toughening agent such as vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer or chlorinated rubber or both. The adhesive may consist of (a) butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer, toluene, and methyl-isobutyl ketone, or (b) butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, chlorinated rubber, vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer, clay, silica gel, mineral oil, and cyclohexanone.ALSO:An adhesive comprises a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, chlorinated rubber, and, if desired, vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer. Fillers such as clay and silica gel, and a solvent such as a mixture of mineral oil and cyclohexanone may be added.
