Abstract:
A bending method and bending apparatus directed to avoiding the risk of die breakage and damage to ram coupling parts due to an abnormal condition of a ram drive shaft and directed to achieving high-accuracy bending in which a uniform bend angle can be produced throughout the entire length of a workpiece without forming a boat-formed belly. In a press brake having three or more drive shafts, the deformation amounts of the ram and the table at each shaft-load imposed point are calculated based on input bending process data. A target closest distance between the punch and the die at each shaft-load imposed point is calculated from its corresponding deformation amounts. The difference between the actual bend angle of the workpiece after bending and a target bend angle is obtained at at least three positions, that are, the ends and center of the workpiece. From these differences, a correction amount for the moving amount of the ram at each shaft-load imposed point is obtained. Further, an adequate limit for the pressing force to be generated by each drive shaft is calculated based on the bending process data and the ram is driven by independently controlling each drive shaft so as not to generate a pressing force exceeding the set limit. To detect an abnormal situation due to abnormal movement of a drive shaft, a line connecting the positions of the drive shafts disposed at the points corresponding to the ends of the workpiece is obtained and the respective deviations of other drive shafts from the connecting line are obtained. If one of the deviations exceeds a preset allowable value, an abnormal situation is detected.
Abstract:
A compensation device (10) for a press brake that provides vertical arcuate adjustment to a die holding an elongated workpiece to be configured by the press brake. The compensation device (10) includes a die holder member (18) that removably receives the die, an elongated wedge (14) having an inclined upper surface (60) that congruently engages an inclined lower surface (82) of the die holder member (18), and a press bed engagement member (12) that supports the wedge (14) and positions the die holder member (18) such that the wedge (14) is capable of lateral movement relative to the die holder member (18) thereby arcuately elevating the combined die holder member (18), die and workpiece by adjusting one wedge deformation bolt (76). The arcuately elevated workpiece prevents incomplete bends or "flat spots" from occurring in a mid-portion of the workpiece due to an overloaded or relatively "long" press bed in the press brake. The device (10) further includes the capability of determining the amount of elevation of the die holder member (18) by utilizing a "feeler gauge" to measure the lateral dimension of a gap (102) vertically separating the die holder member (18) and the press bed engagement member (12).
Abstract:
Mating sets of forming punches and dies having different combined working heights are mounted at multiple work stations in a single press brake by means of a variable height forming punch holder. The punch holder has a pair of mating step wedges that are adjustable to increase a working height of a mounted forming punch so that each mating set of forming punches and dies has an equal combined working height. This avoids custom tooling while allowing a sequence of forming operations to occur at multiple work stations without driving tools into contact with each other.

Abstract:
A press including a frame which carries a pair of tool-holding beams lying in a common general plane. One of the beams carry a punch and the other a bending die. At least one of the beams is movable towards the opposing beam to perform a working stroke, and in the opposite direction. According to the invention, the movable beam is divided, at least effectively, into a number n of sections, n being equal to or greater than 2. The devices for moving the beam are constituted by n=1 servomotor units each of which is provided with a support coupled to the movable beam and is adapted to exert a force, through this support, for thrusting the movable beam towards the opposite beam during the working stroke. Two servomotor units are end units whose supports are coupled to respective ends of the movable beam. The other remaining servomotor is an intermediate unit whose support is situated in the transition zone between one section and another. If P is the total force thrusting the movable beam towards the opposing beam, each end unit is adapted to exert a thrust force of P/2(n-1) on the movable beam through its support. A position transducer is associated with each support and the servomotor units are subject to a common control processor having inputs connected to the transducers and outputs connected to the servomotor units. The processor is adapted to control each unit so that all the units impart identical movements and speeds of movement of their supports and to the movable beam.
Abstract:
A press that includes a frame which bears a bending device that includes an upper tool and a lower tool which can be moved in a mutually reciprocal manner. The press also includes a curve-forming element for forming a curve on the bending device. The curve-forming element has curve-forming members slidable over each other in a lengthwise direction and a transverse direction and making contact with each other. The contact surface of the curve-forming members in the lengthwise direction and the transverse direction of the bending device possess the respective determined angles of slope .alpha. and .beta.. The press has an element for adjusting the curve-forming members in the lengthwise direction and the transverse direction, wherein the curve-forming members adjoining each other at the sides preferably form a curve-forming strip which extends substantially over the whole length ofthe bending device. This curve-forming strip is preferably provided with a number of discrete contact surfaces.
Abstract:
A bending tool for a bending press comprising an upper die member detachably secured to a vertically reciprocable ram for bending a flat metal workpiece to a predetermined depth in a lower female bending die. The bottom surface of the female bending die cavity is formed by a plurality of flat headed pins in side by side slots or bores. The heads of the pins form the bottom flat surface of a longitudinal groove which forms the bottom die cavity surface. The vertical adjustment of the pins is provided by the interfitting combination of a left side wedge assembly, a middle wedge assembly and a right side wedge assembly. The interfitting prevents displacement of any one of the supporting assemblies for the pins to assure improved bending precision.
