摘要: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the continuous production of foam blocks or sheets having an essentially rectangular cross-section from a foamable, liquid reaction mixture, possibly in the form of a liquid froth, in which the reaction mixture is applied from a stationary mixing head onto a moving lower facing sheet inclined in the longitudinal direction. An upper covering sheet is supplied from above and is brought into contact with the reaction mixture by means of a deflecting element. The deflecting element is flat in the longitudinal direction, so that a channel with an essentially constant cross-section is formed between the lower facing sheet and the upper covering sheet guided by the deflecting element, the length of which channel in a longitudinal direction is several times greater than its central height H.sub.M. The deflecting element can be oscillated about an axis at the entry end where it rests on the reaction mixture by the application of pressure.

摘要: Plastic foam insulation panels are fabricated in a continuous elongated strip by an apparatus comprising upper and lower generally horizontally extending conveyors which form a support for the foam material during the expansion and solidification thereof. The thickness of the panel is determined by the vertical spacing between adjacent runs of the respective conveyors and the panel width is determined by spaced apart longitudinally extending sideplates which, together with the upper and lower conveyor runs define the cross-sectional dimensions of the insulation panel. The sideplates are mounted on laterally extending arms secured to spaced apart support stanchions and the position of the respective sideplates may be adjusted to vary the width of the panel.

摘要: A method and apparatus for making a foamed polyurethane cushion. The cushion may be a separate cushion for carpeting or other fabric, or may be bonded to carpeting. Components for forming a foamed polyurethane are cooled, and dispensed into a puddle on a moving sheet. The puddle is leveled by an air knife into a uniform coating; then, the moving sheet is passed around a roller and placed coated side down against a fabric. The resulting sandwich is held, and moved across a steam box. The steam causes the components to react and form a blown polyurethane. After the blowing is complete and before the foam is cured beyond its plastic state, the thickness of the foam is adjusted by pressing with a roller. The sheet, which is a thermoplastic, is heated to cause the sheet to blend into the completed foam.

摘要: A method of manufacturing laminated plastics materials comprising passing a first sheet material adjacent a barrier in parallel spaced relation to the barrier which is disposed obliquely to the direction of passage of the first sheet material and applying a quantity of unfoamed polyurethane prepolymer at or adjacent the edge of the first sheet upstream of the most upstream part of the barrier. A second sheet material may be applied to the foam as it passes under the barrier.

摘要: A continuous production process for making a slab of polyurethane foam comprises preparing a foamable polyurethane composition, continuously feeding the composition to a horizontally moving trough to form a foaming mass on the trough, continuously pressing the top surface of the foaming mass with a pressure means over a zone including a zone extending from the foaming completion point to a point just prior to the completion of curing so as to make flat the top surface of the foaming mass, and horizontally moving the pressure means in synchronism with and in the same direction as the trough. Preferably, the composition is fed to the trough at such a rate as to produce a slab about 40 mm to 250 mm thick. The process can produce at a low cost polyurethane foam slabs which have no cavities and no cracks and which therefore have a uniform density or porosity.

摘要: An apparatus for producing a foamed sheet of material has a mixing head mounted on a frame which is positioned on a track for longitudinal movement. The mounting head also engages a worm gear for vertical movement. Below the mixing head is a sloped portion of a conveyor. The sloped portion of the conveyor comprises a pair of stationary central panels and a right and left pair of panels. Each pair of panels is hinged together and slide toward and away from the longitudinal axis of the central panels. A paper sheet slides over the panels onto a level bottom conveyor. Vertical side fences are adjacent the side edges of the bottom conveyor panels. A paper sheet slides along the inside surface of each side fence at the same speed of the bottom sheet of paper. A worm gear adjusts the distance between the side fences. The sloped portion of the conveyor has a height adjustment mechanism at its upper and lower end and at the hinged portion of the panel. The central panels have air passages therethrough. A blower is operably connected to the air passages to blow air therethrough and under the paper sheet to glide the paper along the sloped conveyor.

摘要: In the continuous production of rectangular foam slabs wherein a foamable reaction mixture is foamed on a forwardly moving floor web and lateral confining webs, and in which a cover web is applied during the foaming process to the surface of the rising foam, the improvement which comprises supplying said cover web from a supply to the surface under controllable tension, thereby exercising a controllable pressure on the surface of the rising foam, removing the cover web from the foam surface beyond the point at which the rising mixture has substantially reached its maximum height and passing the web rearwardly and then forwardly to serve as the floor web for receiving further foamable mixture. Advantageously the cover web is heated before application to the foaming mixture, it is pressed against the foam surface with a pressure of about 2 to 4 kilograms per square meter, it is removed from the foam surface about 2 to 4 meters downstream of where the foam mixture has reached its maximum height, and it is dried before it becomes the floor web. A corresponding apparatus is provided, with vertically adjustable transversely extending horizontal control members governing the locations where the cover web contacts and leaves the foam surface. The control members may be as long as the cover web is wide or they may be from about 15 to 25 cm shorter.

摘要: A method of making a reinforced insulating foam wherein an open weave fabric is tufted with loops similar to the making of a shag rug in the textile industry. Foaming material is then inserted into the open weave fabric on the side opposite that of the tufted fibers and expanded through the fabric and around the fibers. A rigid non-sticking backing plate is used to direct the foam through the woven fabric such that the fabric is at the surface of the composition and thus may be bonded to the container walls. When foamed downwardly, gravity assists to produce a less dense foam and the fibers are straightened by the foaming action.
