Abstract:
Methods and systems for transmitting and receiving large objects via digital radio broadcast involve retrieving an object and an object description; assigning a unique identifier to the object; segmenting the object into a plurality of fragments; generating at least one long message having selected ones of the fragments and a long header including the unique identifier and the object description; generating at least one short message having selected ones of the fragments and a short header including the unique identifier; and communicating the at least the long message or the short message to a digital radio broadcast transmitter. In accordance with certain embodiments, reassembly of the object can begin with either a long message or a short message.
Abstract:
A delay estimation unit is disclosed. The delay estimation unit may receive first and second streams of data having identical content. The amount of data in the data streams is reduced by filtering (e.g., lowpass filtering) the first and second data streams to produce first and second filtered streams, respectively. The amount of data is further reduced by decimating the first and second filtered streams, discarding all but one of every N samples to produce first and second decimated data, respectively. The first and second decimated streams are received by a correlator that performs a correlation operation. The output of the correlator is received by a peak search unit that analyzes the correlation results over time and searches for peaks that indicate alignment of the first and second data streams.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed in which delay is applied to analog-sourced audio in a radio simulcast when the analog signal initially leads the digital signal. A radio receiver is configured to receive a simulcast radio program broadcast with an analog signal and a digital signal. The program content can be extracted from either the analog or digital signals, with the audio source eventually being blended to the digital signal. Audio is initially provided based on the analog signal. If the analog signal is initially leading the digital signal, delay is applied a data stream corresponding to the analog signal relative to a data stream corresponding to the digital signal. Delay applied to the data stream corresponding to the analog signal is increased at a rate that avoids audio artifacts of the output audio. The blend is performed when the data streams are aligned in time.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and processor readable media are disclosed for scheduling and delivering content for digital radio broadcast transmission. To overcome the inefficiencies of conventional scheduling and delivery techniques, the present disclosure describes a novel multiport synchronous-asynchronous client for receiving content from multiple sources and then scheduling and delivering that content to an importer.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and processor readable media are disclosed for encoding and transmitting first media content, second media content and triggering instructions to a digital radio broadcast receiver such that the triggering instructions arrive for immediate execution to trigger immediate rendering of the second media content in synchronization with the first media content.
Abstract:
A method and system is presented for coordinating the transmission of supplemental digital data to accompany broadcast data, and in particular, analog radio broadcasts, among a plurality of broadcasters. The supplemental digital data may provide information about the particular broadcast data being transmitted (i.e. cut data) or may be supplemental to such data (i.e. news, weather and traffic data). The supplemental digital data to be presented is sorted based on particular algorithms which may take into account broadcaster-specified criteria such as target audience, time of day, type of broadcast data presented, and the like. The supplemental digital data may be audio data, visual data, or audio-visual data for presentation with the broadcast data. The supplemental digital data may further be advertisement data. The advertisement data may be sold by the broadcasters or the party coordinating the IBOC transmission of the supplemental digital data. The supplemental digital data may play simultaneously with muted broadcast data or at a user-specified time.
Abstract:
A method of block deinterleaving data received at a digital radio broadcast receiver is described. The method includes providing a block of memory having n×k addresses, wherein the block comprises a single table, receiving a digital radio broadcast signal at the receiver, and demodulating the digital radio broadcast signal into a plurality of interleaved data units. For at least one series of n×k data units a pointer step size is determined, and for each data unit in the series, an address in the block is calculated based on the pointer step size, and an output data unit is read from the block at the address, such that said output data units represent block deinterleaved data units. An input data unit from the plurality of interleaved data units is then written to the block at the address. Associated systems and computer readable storage media are presented.
Abstract:
A method for transmitting data between components of a digital broadcasting system includes: receiving payload data, adding a content layer header to the payload data to form a content layer data frame, adding a transmission and authentication layer header and a cyclic redundancy check field to the content layer data frame to form a transmission and authentication layer data frame, adding an application framing layer header to the transmission and authentication layer data frame to form an application framing layer data frame, and transmitting the application framing layer data frame to a destination component.

Abstract:
According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for providing additional bandwidth to receivers that can decode a higher modulation comprising trading a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction induced constellation noise of all or a subset of in-band on-channel (I BOC) carriers within an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ODFM) waveform with data carrying superposition modulation.
