Abstract:
A guiding and rotary cutting device for severing strips of tape or the like comprising a cylindrical guide post having a slot, preferably tapered, extended transversely through said post and a hollow cylindrical rotatable knife coaxially mounted about the post, said rotatable knife having a longitudinal slot disposed adjacent to and in alignment with the longitudinal first opening of the slot in the guide post and a longitudinal knife slot disposed adjacent to and in alignment with the longitudinal second opening of the slot in the guide post such that upon rotation of the cylindrical knife, a tape or the like protruding out from the longitudinal second opening in the guide post will be severed by the longitudinal knife edge defining the knife slot in the cylindrical knife.
Abstract:
A feedstock cutting and feeding device for forming machines having a reciprocating cutter which will cut the feedstock in one, short stroke and hold the cut feedstock in a position to be easily introduced to a transfer disc by the advancement of the feedstock.
Abstract:
A pneumatic impact device comprising a housing, a drive piston and a piston rod. At the forward end of the piston rod there is attached a tool intended for metal working like punching, cropping or forging. The housing contains a drive chamber, an air charge chamber, a reverse chamber and a retard chamber. The piston rod is provided with two forward-facing, annular shoulders one of which constitutes a reverse piston for working in the reverse chamber and the other a retard piston for working in the retard chamber. For being protected from impact strains, the drive piston is longitudinally displaceable relative to the piston rod. During the working strokes, the drive piston cooperates with a backwardly facing shoulder on the piston rod, but just before the latter reaches the point where the tool hits the billet to be worked, the drive piston is stopped in the drive chamber and is thereby separated from the piston rod shoulder.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for cutting cylinders of gelatinous material such as polyacrylamide gels into discs of precise thickness comprises a cutting surface which is placed in contact with the entire circumference of the cylinder. Cutting force is then applied from all points on the circumference at once, resulting in cutting the gel cylinder towards the center from all points on the circumference. This is accomplished by the use of a multi-bladed diaphragm similar to an iris diaphragm used for camera aperture control. The edges of the blades of the diaphragm form a variable dimension cutting surface.
Abstract:
The cutter comprises two relatively displacing blades, one of them made in the form of a bushing and rigidly secured on a carriage adapted for reciprocating motion in the direction of material feed, while the other blade is installed for possible displacement in the course of cutting in the direction perpendicular to carriage travel. The cutter also comprises a drive for simultaneous displacement of the carriage and the blade, which is displaced in the course of cutting in the direction perpendicular to carriage travel. The drive according to the invention comprises two crank and connecting-rod mechanisms which are so installed that the connecting rod of one mechanism is positioned essentially vertically, while the connecting rod of the other mechanism is positioned essentially horizontally and with its end pivotally connected to the vertical connecting rod, which in its turn, is pivotally connected to the carriage through a lever, a axle connecting the lever to the vertical connecting rod, thus displacing the blade in a direction perpendicular to the carriage travel. The proposed cutter features low inertia potential and consequently higher productivity as compared with known flying cutters of a similar type.
Abstract:
A tube slidingly confines a plunger and has a radial aperture to receive needle portions of hypodermic syringes, the aperture having a cutting edge to cooperate with the plunger to shear off the needle portions. The tube also has a larger radial aperture to receive the leading ends of the barrel portions of hypodermic syringes to shear off the leading ends after the needle portions are severed. A tubular elbow on the forward end of the tube extends downwardly to a collection receptacle. When the plunger is manually retracted and released, a spring strokes the piston for a shearing operation and at the end of the shearing stroke the plunger propels the severed material towards the elbow to drop it into the collection receptacle.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of providing surveyor stakes having a top end termination indicative of a desired elevation is disclosed comprising a hydraulic cylinder connected to a cutting blade supported on the lower end of a levelling rod movable adjacent a surveyor''s stake while being monitored through a transit with the hydraulic cutting means being actuated by a manual hydraulic pump carried by the user when the blade is observed to be positioned at a desired elevation to cut the top of the stake and provide a resultant stake having a top end termination of the desired elevation.
Abstract:
An electrical circuit component lead cutter including a slotted track for receiving the downwardly extending component wire leads and conveying them into operative engagement with a shearing mechanism which trims the leads to a selected length. The track is inclined at an angle relative to the horizontal so that the components are gravity fed along the track and between a pair of shearing edges which require no precise registration to effect their trimming function.
Abstract:
An apparatus for dividing a continuous series of rings dropping vertically in a helical formation from a delivery mechanism to an underlying collecting device in which the rings accumulate in coil form. The apparatus includes a plurality of pivotal elements which are movable from inoperative positions outside of the path of ring descent to operative positions extending into said path. When thus operatively positioned, the pivotal elements interrupt the further descent of rings into the underlying collecting device. A portion of the strand connecting the rings continuing to accumulate above the pivotal elements to those accumulated in coil form therebelow is located centrally by the operatively positioned elements in the path of ring descent. A cutting mechanism carried by and movable with the pivotal elements then operates to sever the centrally located portion of the connecting strand, thereby permitting the underlying coil to be removed from the collecting device.
Abstract:
A device is provided for securing a length of leader tape from a supply thereof to a reel hub having a slot on its peripheral side wall. The hub is initially positioned on the base of the device with a segment of a leadering tape positioned adjacent the slot. A pair of spaced die members are mounted on the base and have vertically aligned apertures therein through which a supply of frangible rod is advanced. A shearing blade is slidably mounted in the device for movement between the die members and is reciprocated by an air cylinder between extended and retracted positions. Upon movement of the blade from its retracted position to its extended position, the blade shears the portion of the frangible rod between the die members and forces the sheared rod portion, with the tape adjacent the hub, into the slot in the reel hub.
