Abstract: A method and apparatus for rapidly severing a decoy towline extending from an aircraft by a mechanical spring actuated cutting blade and a thermal fuse type of release mechanism eliminating a pyrotechnic actuation device. The cutting blade is biased toward cutting engagement with the towline by a preloaded coil compression spring retained in the loaded position by a length of a polymer cord. The polymer cord has a heater wire wrapped about a portion of the cord which is connected to a DC voltage supply. The heater wire melts the cords when electrically connected to the DC power supply which releases the restraint on the spring which then drives the cutting blade into severing engagement with the towline.

Abstract: A sawing machine having a miter angle adjustment assembly includes a machine base, a worktable rotatably connected to the machine base and rotatable about an axis, a cutter unit mounted to the worktable, a tightening member to lock movement of the worktable relative to the machine base and a driving device set. The driving device set includes a driving member pivotally mounted to the worktable and an eccentric member coaxially rotatable with the driving member to move the tightening member. The eccentric member is controllable by the driving member to rotate between a first position and a second position to move the tightening member into engagement with or away from the machine base.

Abstract: A wire processing unit has a crimp head moved in a “z” direction by an eccentric drive and a crimping tool arranged on the crimp head moves with it. The crimp head also moves a pin connected to a lowering unit that has a C-shaped bracket on which the gripper unit is arranged. When a crimping punch moves, the gripper unit is moved with it, and the wire-end held by a gripper pair is inserted into an upwardly-open conductor crimp and an insulation crimp respectively. A cutting head of a cutting unit cuts off the leading wire-end, removes the insulation, and separates contacts with defective crimp fastening from the wire-end.

Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a table on which a workpiece is placed, a miter saw unit supporting a saw blade, and a housing pivotally supporting the miter saw unit related to the table in such a manner that the miter saw unit is at least laterally pivotable. Further, the miter saw includes a bevel mechanism for selectively determining the lateral position of the miter saw unit at any of a plurality of pivoted positions, including a vertical position where the saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the table, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position. The bevel mechanism includes a movable rod and three fixed stop members, the rod being operable to move between a first rod position abutting one of the fixed stop members and a second rod position not abutting the one of the fixed stop members so as to permit the lateral pivotal movement of the miter saw unit. The first fixed stop member is disposed so that the rod abuts the first fixed stop member when the miter saw unit is at the vertical position. Similarly, the second fixed stop member is disposed so that the rod abuts the second fixed stop member when the miter saw unit is leftwardly pivoted at a first predetermined angle from the vertical position. Further, the third fixed stop member is disposed so that the rod abuts the third fixed stop member when the miter saw unit is rightwardly pivoted at a second predetermined angle from the vertical position.

Abstract: Apparatus for supporting a coaxial cable, or the like, and effecting cutting and stripping operations to remove a portion of one or more layers which concentrically cover a central conductor. A single blade, having a circular cutting edge, is moved in an orbital path about the cable with rotary motion of a motor translated to orbital motion of the blade through a plurality of plates relatively movable on crossed, linear, roller bearings and a shaft eccentrically affixed to the motor with the shaft and motor axes at an acute angle to one another. The shaft extends through a spherical bearing mounted in one of the plates, thereby translating nutational motion of the shaft to orbiting motion of the plate which is directly attached to the blade. A unique clamping assembly includes a pair of jaws having respective gear racks engaging a single pinion gear on a motor output shaft for linear movement of the jaws by equal distances in opposite directions. A microprocessor controls the level of current to the motor, thereby adjusting the clamping force applied to the cable, and increases this force during the stripping operation, when maximum axial force is applied to the cable. A guide bushing establishes the radial position of the cable axis and is stationary during blade movement, thereby permitting the opening in the bushing to closely approximate the cable diameter. The position of the bushing is adjustable to align the central axis of the bushing opening with that of the blade cutting edge. The bushing is also movable to an inoperative position to permit unobstructed access to the blade for replacement thereof. A pair of gripping members are movable to engage the severed portion of the covering layer to assist in the stripping operation, and a unique combination of hardware and software is provided for calibrating the position of the gripping members at equal distances from the axis of the cable.

Abstract: A wire piece forming device includes a wire piece dispenser with a cutting mechanism, a receiver member which receives wire pieces from the dispenser and a take-over member. The wire piece dispenser includes a feed device for the stepwise feeding of the wire. The device includes feed wheels which are driven intermittently by a four-bar linkage and a freewheel. A wire guide member is provided to ensure that the beginning of the wire is reliably inserted into a groove-like recess in a receiver member. The groove-like recess is open at its bottom. Before a wire piece is cut off by a cutter, the groove-like recess is closed by a take-over member moving past the opening of the recess. The take-over member then takes the separated wire piece and carries it away.
