Abstract:
The inlet and/or outlet end of an exhaust muffler contains a bushing which in one form of the invention is provided with an expanded annular rib to receive an expanded portion of a gas flow tube and thereby serve to hold the tube in axial position; and, in a second form of the invention, has an expanded portion which receives an expanded portion on a gas flow tube so that additional axial space is provided to receive a tailpipe or an exhaust pipe.
Abstract:
The disclosure embraces a muffler construction for use with the exhaust gas conveying system of an internal combustion engine of an automotive vehicle, the muffler construction embodying adapter mounting means telescopingly associated with the muffler construction, and a method facilitating installation of a replacement muffler construction through connection of the adapter means with existing gas passage means such as the exhaust pipe and a tail pipe.
Abstract:
A muffler shell of originally circular cross section is shaped into a figure eight cross section and subdivided into chambers by transverse partitions, one of the chambers acting with perforated areas in a gas flow tube to attenuate relatively low frequencies and another of the chambers containing overlapping perforated tubes defining a reverse flow or triflow path for gas passing through it.
Abstract:
A silencer includes a smaller cylindrical member having a planar portion and a larger cylindrical member arranged to closely contact at least a portion of the outer circumferential surface of the smaller cylindrical member. The larger cylindrical member as seen in a direction orthogonal to its axis provides an oblate cross section having a major axis X and a minor axis Y and the smaller cylindrical member is arranged to have the planar portion traversing the major axis X of the larger cylindrical member.
Abstract:
A muffler of a vehicle includes a first muffler body so as to form a first chamber, at least a second muffler body including a housing, one end portion opened and the other end portion closed, wherein one of the second muffler bodies is fitted into the other end portion of the first member to form a second chamber and the other second muffler bodies are fitted into each other through the one end portions in series to form third chambers if more than one second muffler bodies are assembled, an inflow pipe to connect the outside with the first, second and/or third chamber by passing the one end portion of the first muffler body, and an outflow pipe to communicate the first, second, and/or third chamber with the outside by passing through the other end portion of the last second muffler body.
Abstract:
For manufacturing micro-structured reactors with passageways loaded with catalyst using the pre-coat method, a method is provided which comprises the following method steps: a) producing reactor layers having bonding areas as well as passageway areas in which the passageways are formed, b) applying at least one bonding layer onto the reactor layers in the bonding areas, c) loading the reactor layers in the passageway areas with the catalyst and d) bonding the reactor layers, the bonding layer being applied and masked before the reactor layers are loaded with the catalyst. As a result, it is ensured that the efficiency of the catalyst will not be affected during manufacturing. The reactor may be used as a methane and methanol reformer in particular.
Abstract:
A muffler with enhanced seam strength construction, and method therefor, is provided by shell sidewalls having facing lips extending at an angled direction relative to afterfire explosive force along a lateral direction, such that outward lateral movement of the first sidewall is blocked by the second lip in the path of lateral movement of the first lip and such that outward lateral movement of the second sidewall is blocked by the first lip in the path of lateral movement of the second lip.
Abstract:
An exhaust-noise attenuation muffler includes two half-shells, each including an inner shell and an outer shell which are made through deep drawing of a sheet metal blank which can have a thickness between 0.3 mm and 0.5 m. The inner shell or the outer shell is provided with an embossment. After placing the inner shells in corresponding ones of the outer shells to form half-shells, two complementing half-shells are joined together.
Abstract:
A sound adjustable device that varies exhaust-noise having a casing including a sound-dampening material that dampens exhaust-noise, an outer slotted pipe inside the casing, an inner slotted pipe inside the outer slotted pipe, and wherein at least one of the outer and inner slotted pipes is movable with respect to the other to alternately align the slots of the respective slotted pipes for a quieter exhaust-noise and to misalign the slots of the respective slotted pipes for a louder exhaust-noise. The sound adjustable device may also include a heat-shielding material inserted between the casing and the sound-dampening material to shield the casing from heat emitted by the exhaust, and a heat-resistant material may be included in the inner and outer slotted pipes.
