    摘要: An injection molding apparatus is disclosed that includes a valve-gated nozzle having a nozzle tip assembly and a valve pin slidably disposed therein. The nozzle tip assembly includes a nozzle liner having a first valve pin guiding portion, a valve pin guide having a second valve pin guiding portion upstream of the first valve pin guiding portion, and a transfer seal having a bore for receiving the nozzle liner and the valve pin guide therein. The transfer seal bore includes an alignment surface that surrounds the nozzle liner and the valve pin guide to align the first and second valve pin guiding portions with the mold gate, such that the valve pin is accurately aligned during operation. The transfer seal also includes means to couple the nozzle tip assembly to the nozzle body.

Also disclosed is a method for making such a nozzle which includes the steps of applying a first insulator layer, winding electrical resistance wire about the first insulator layer, applying a second insulator layer, and applying a casing layer thereover. The first and second insulating layers may be provided by spraying or through telescoping, self-supporting sleeves.

    摘要: An anti-drool mechanism suitable for use in an injection molding system is provided herein. An injection molding machine includes a retractable machine nozzle for injecting a melt stream into a manifold. Between the machine nozzle and the manifold is an anti-drool mechanism, which includes a melt passage and a fixed pin disposed within the melt passage. The fixed pin is sized so that the melt stream will flow around the pin. The fixed pin has a head portion configured to engage with the machine nozzle and includes a first sealing surface. An actuated shut-off collar is also disposed within the melt passage, surrounding the pin, and includes a second sealing surface configured to cut off the flow of the melt stream when in contact with the first sealing surface.

The plurality of zones may be thermally regulated such as to enable a substantially leak-free junction between the machine nozzle and the molding apparatus. The sprue apparatus may include an isolating coupler that substantially isolates a heated sprue bushing from carriage force. The invention has been found particularly useful when injecting metal alloys such as magnesium based alloys when in the thixotropic state.

    摘要: A nozzle in an injection molding machine allows for smooth, blended melt flow into a mold cavity. In one example, this is accomplished through use of a nozzle having a nozzle body with a nozzle melt channel in fluid communication with a manifold melt channel and a nozzle tip. The nozzle tip includes a first melt channel in fluid communication with the nozzle melt channel and a plurality of release melt channels between the first melt channel and an annular melt channel. The annular melt channel is formed between a retaining device and the nozzle tip. The annular melt channel includes a decompression chamber in fluid communication with respective ones of the release melt channels and a compression chamber between the decompression chamber and a mold. A pressure difference formed between the respective release melt channels and the decompression chamber and between the decompression chamber and the compression chamber blends the molten material to even and balance flow into the mold cavity.

    摘要: The present invention provides a composite nozzle cap having a first part made of metal and an outer tip of a polymeric material. The first part mechanically secures the nozzle into the nozzle housing by engaging the nozzle housing and pressing against a base flange on the nozzle to clamp the flange between the first part of the nozzle housing. The second part extends away from the nozzle housing and is mechanically secured to the first part. An inner face of the second part contacts the nozzle tip to prevent melt flow between the second part of the nozzle tip. An outer face of the second part contacts the gate insert to avoid melt flow between the second part and the gate insert. As the second part is of a polymeric material, it avoids the heat transfer concerns associated with a metallic interface between the nozzle tip and the gate insert.

    摘要: A nozzle for controlling flow of melt in a mold assembly comprises a valve pin guide interposed between a nozzle inlet and nozzle outlet, a valve pin movably supported thereby, and a contact arm engaging the valve pin and transverse to and passing through the valve pin guide. Biasing means acting on the contact arm hold the valve pin in a position preventing flow of melt. As the mold assembly closes, forces exerted on the contact arm overcome the biasing means and allow the valve pin to move to a position permitting flow of melt. Relief of pressure of retained melt is effected when force therefrom exerted on the valve pin exceeds an adjustable pre-load of the biasing means. The nozzle advantageously comprises an inlet bushing movably supported by the nozzle body enabling adjustment of the overall length of the nozzle to accommodate a range of spacing of elements of the mold assembly.
