摘要: A timing recovery system for the low density longitudinal record channels utilizing capstan velocity or feed forward rate in a magnetic tape recording/reproducing system in which the capstan feed forward velocity, derived from an encoder, provides a signal whose frequency is proportional to the speed of the tape driven by the capstan. A scaling circuit is provided by a frequency-to-voltage converter followed by a voltage-to-frequency converter, the output signal providing a demodulation clock having a multiplied frequency proportional to the data rate reproduced from the tape. The demodulation clock, fed to the timing window generation circuitry, provides an input to data detection circuitry to provide a clocked data output, regardless of the reproduce speed within a very large range of speeds.

摘要: An apparatus and a method for automatically adjusting the recording speed of a recorder, such as a video cassette recorder (VCR) are provided, wherein the recording speed is automatically changed by comparing the remaining length of a recording medium such as a tape with the remaining recording time of a program, thereby enabling the program to be recorded without interruption. The apparatus includes a reel rotation sensing device for sensing the states of a take-up reel and a supply reel, data input device for inputting data and setting a mode, a memory for storing the data input from the data input device, a system-control microcomputer for calculating a remaining tape length in accordance with the output signal from the reel rotation sensing device, and outputting a signal for controlling the tape's recording mode by comparing the remaining tape length with the data recorded in the memory, and a servo microcomputer for driving motors in accordance with the control signal from the system-control microcomputer.

摘要: This invention is a beginning-of-tape/end-of-tape detection apparatus and method for use in a tape drive system having supply reel, take-up reel, and capstan motion sensors. The invention comprises monitoring means for monitoring each of the angular position signals and processor means for computing beginning-of-tape and end-of-tape utilizing the varying diameters of the supply reel and its tape pack and the take-up reel and its tape pack, and angular velocities of the reels and capstan. This invention provides a plurality of systems and methods for BOT/EOT detection with selectable tolerance levels. These include coarser detection without capstan engagement of tape (for use in high-speed spacing operations), finer detection utilizing capstan engagement, and absolute BOT/EOT detection utilizing the physical ends of the tape. This invention has the advantage of accurately determining beginning and end of tape without requiring special detectors.

摘要: An apparatus and method are disclosed for advancing a tape at a constant, high speed. Two detectors are provided for detecting values representative of the rotational periods of the reels at both low and high tape advance speeds. A calculator is included for determining particular arithmetic functions of these values. A comparator is also provided, which has a memory for storing a parameter dependent on a particular arithmetic function of values representative of low speed rotational periods of the reels. The comparator is provided for comparing the results of a particular arithmetic function of values representative of high speed rotational periods of the reels with the parameter and for outputting an error signal for adjusting the tape advance speed to maintain a constant, high speed.

摘要: In the described method and apparatus a leader, distributed between two winding hubs of a magnetic tape cassette, is first completely wound onto one hub by means of a first motor. Then, a second motor carries out a complete rewinding of the leader onto the second hub to enable an encoder to execute the counting of the overall length of the leader. Subsequently the first motor is operated again to rewind the leader onto the first hub. The encoder counts how much leader has been rewound on the first hub and causes the stoppage of the rewinding when the length of the rewound leader reaches a predetermined value. The invention arranges a leader so that it may be partly extracted from the cassette and then cut into two equal pieces which will be spliced to the opposite ends of magnetic tape.

摘要: A magnetic tape player which includes a tape transport speed selector capable of assuming one of first and second modes during which the magnetic recording tape is transported at a first transport speed and a second transport speed which is 1/n (n being an integer other than 1) of the first transport speed, respectively, a remaining tape length measuring means for measuring a length of time available for recording information to an end of the magnetic recording tape when the magnetic recording tape is transported at the first transport speed, a recording timer for outputting a remaining time signal indicative of the balance between a preset recording time and the length of time actually passed in recording and for outputting a terminating signal necessary to terminate the transport of the magnetic recording tape when the balance becomes zero, and a comparator for comparing the available recording time signal and the remaining time signal with a conversion value during information recording with the magnetic recording tape transported at the second transport speed. If the available recording time signal is higher than the remaining time, the magnetic recording tape is transported at the first transport speed, but if the available recording time signal is lower than the remaining time, the magnetic recording tape is transported at the second transport speed.

摘要: Picture field ordinal numbers recorded near the synchronizing signals of video tape recordings are currently stored in a register as the tape is played back while a modulo 4 up/down counter is incremented or decremented according to the direction of tape transport. A comparison operation checks whether the picture field numbering is in step with the counter for detection of discontinuities or errors. Then a longitudinal track with coded pulses can be read from the tape. A further comparison can be made for checking reliability, bridging errors, and for detecting and indicating discontinuities in picture field numbering sequences.

摘要: A method and apparatus for indicating the number of the particular message that has been reached on a bi-directionally movable record medium used with a record/playback device. A position count is incremented and decremented as the record medium moves in forward and reverse directions, respectively; and end-of-message counts representing the locations of the ends of messages relative to an arbitrary reference location of the record medium are stored. Information representing the number of each message whose end-of-message count is stored is provided; and the number of the message which has been reached is determined as a function of which stored end-of-message count is greater than the present position count and which stored end-of-message count is less than that position count. To prevent ambiguities in determining the number of the message which has been reached, as when a new, partially used record medium is loaded into the record/playback device and is reversed to a location which precedes the reference location (i. e. the starting point of the record medium when it is loaded into the device), the position count is preset to a predetermined count when the record medium is replaced. This predetermined count is sufficient to prevent decrementing of the position count below zero, which would be interpreted as being greater than any of the stored end-of-message counts, even if the full amount of the newly-loaded record medium moves in the reverse direction.

摘要: The present invention is a magnetic tape-based "voice mail" multi-user message system. The system transmits audio prompts to callers to help guide them through the various procedures. The callers respond with Touch-Tone commands. A novel circuit is provided to detect these tone commands without significant interference from the audio prompt signals. This circuit is highly insensitive to deviations in the impedance of the incoming telephone line from its expected value. A circuit is also provided to prevent Touch-Tone commands which are recorded on tape from being re-executed when they are played back from the tape. A single L.E.D. indicator on each recipient's telephone set indicates the status of the system: idle with new message waiting; idle without new message waiting; busy with new message waiting; or busy without new message waiting.
