An apparatus and method for receiving signals in a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system is provided. A receiving end using as many as N Receive (Rx) antennas includes a first detector, as many as (N-2) nth detectors, and an Nth detector. A signal detection technique of the present invention has a low complexity and a throughput similar to that of a Maximum Likelihood (ML) scheme in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless communication system using a Spatial Multiplexing (SM) scheme.

A method and apparatus for detecting a signal in a communication system using at least two transmit antennas are provided. The signal detection method and apparatus includes selecting a symbol corresponding to a lowest branch metric from among symbols, the number of which corresponds to a modulation scheme, determining a candidate symbol by extending a process of selecting a symbol corresponding to a lowest branch metric from among the selected symbols, to a number which is less by one than the number of the transmit antennas, setting an accumulated branch metric of the candidate symbol as a threshold, removing a symbol having an accumulated branch metric higher than the threshold, and selecting, as a last received symbol, a symbol corresponding to a path having the lowest accumulated branch metric among paths selected without being removed until a last stage.

An apparatus and method for correcting a CPE in a signal reception apparatus of a multi-carrier communication system are provided, in which an auto-correlation of a reference signal estimated from a reference symbol among a plurality of symbols is detected, a cross-correlation between a channel estimate of the reference signal and an actual received reference signal is detected, and the CPE of the remaining symbols except the reference symbol is corrected using the auto-correlation and the cross-correlation.

A method of fabricating an image sensor is disclosed, by which etch damage and stress causing dislocation can be reduced in a manner of forming a liner oxide layer and performing thermal hardening simultaneously. A method of fabricating an image sensor according to embodiments may include etching a trench in a semiconductor substrate using a hard mask formed over the semiconductor substrate. A liner oxide layer may be formed within the trench and then densified. Dopant may be implanted into the liner oxide layer. The hard mask may be removed, and the trench may be filled with an insulator, and the insulator planarized.

Embodiments relate to an image sensor, and in particular to a manufacturing method of an image sensor for preventing an undercut phenomenon in an etching process so that the salicidation of a pixel area can be prevented. Embodiments relate to a manufacturing method of an image sensor for preventing an undercut according to embodiments including forming plasma-enhanced tetra ethyl ortho silicate (PE-TEOS) films in a non-salicide area and a salicide area defined over a semiconductor substrate using a CVD process. A photoresist pattern may be formed covering the salicide area over the PE-TEOS films. A nitridation process may be performed over the PE-TEOS films formed over the non-salicide area using plasma. The photoresist pattern is removed. The non-nitrided PE-TEOS films of the PE-TEOS films may be removed using an etching process.

An apparatus and method for performing distributed spatial multiplexing and distributed spatial diversity in a multi-hop relay system are provided. In the multi-hop relay system, a transmitter includes an outer coder for performing outer coding on transmission data, an outer interleaver for interleaving data received from the outer coder, an inner coder for dividing data received from the outer interleaver into a plurality of frames and performing inner coding on the divided frames, and a transmitting unit for transmitting hierarchically coded frames received from the inner coder to respective Relay Stations (RSs).

In a communication system, information regarding a first modulation scheme applied to a frequency domain in a serving base station is received from the serving base station. A signal of the frequency domain is received. A second modulation scheme is set by estimating a modulation scheme applied to the frequency domain in at least one neighbor base station from the received signal. Channel state information is generated by estimating the received signal. An operation for selecting whether to use interference cancellation is performed using the channel state information, the first modulation scheme information and the second modulation scheme.

Provided is an apparatus and method for performing a video call connection in a mobile terminal with a video call function. The method includes receiving a video call connection request message from the mobile terminal and detecting the phone number of a called party for a video call from the received video call connection request message, determining whether the called party is a video call service subscriber, and, if the called party is not a video call service subscriber, transmitting to the mobile terminal a message indicating that the called party is not a video call service subscriber. The cause of the video call connection failure is subdivided and information of the precise failure cause is provided to the mobile terminal. Accordingly, a user of the mobile terminal can know the precise cause of the video call connection failure.
