    摘要: An optical recording medium has a user data area and a lead-out area each having grooves and lands formed thereon. Wobbles are formed on at least one lateral surface of the grooves of the user data area and the lead-out area, and configured such that wobble characteristics are made different between the user data area and the lead-out area. Different types of the wobbles are formed on the grooves of either the user data area or the lead-out area, thereby preventing an optical pickup that performs recording/reproducing, from deviating from the user data area. Also, in a multi-layer optical recording medium, a whole area of a recording layer is configured to have the same condition, thereby preventing deterioration in reproducing and/or recording due to a difference in light power transmittance of another recording layer.

When the code stream of the preceding codeword “a” and the following codeword b2 is X1, and when the code stream of the preceding codeword “a” and the following codeword b2 is X2, the codewords are allocated such that the INV values of X1 and X2 are maintained to be opposite when the preceding codeword “a” or the following codeword b1(b2) (b1 or b2) should be replaced by another codeword in compliance with a predetermined boundary condition given between codewords. The codewords are allocated so that a DC suppression capability of the code stream can be maintained.

    摘要: A jitter detecting circuit and a phase locked loop using the detected jitter are provided. A jitter detecting circuit detecting a jitter value of a signal which is converted into a digital signal from an analog signal input, wherein the jitter value detecting circuit includes an edge detector discriminating signs of two signals derived from continuous sampling points from the digitally converted input signal, and outputting the two signals as first and second edge signals, respectively if the signs s are different from each other; a comparator outputting a signal having a smaller absolute value among the first and second edge signals output from the edge detector; an operating unit dividing the absolute value output from the comparator by the sum of the absolute value of the first edge signal and that of the second edge signal; and an accumulator accumulating outputs of the operating unit during a predetermined period, to obtain a jitter value of the predetermined period. A jitter amount is detected with signals derived from two sampling points around the edge from the analog-digital converted signal, so that an accurate jitter amount can be detected regardless of the input signal amplitude, and an accurate and fast phase locked signal can be obtained using the jitter value.
