摘要: A process for producing a magnetic recording medium is disclosed, which comprises uniformly dispersing an .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 powder having a particle size of not greater than 0.1 .mu.m in a dispersion medium to obtain a dispersion, adding the dispersion to a coating composition for a magnetic layer essentially comprising a binder and a ferromagnetic powder having a specific surface area of not less than about 40 m.sup.2 /g, further dispersing the mixture to prepare a coating composition for a magnetic layer, and coating the resulting coating composition on a nonmagnetic support to obtain a magnetic layer having a dry thickness of about 2 .mu.m or less. The resulting magnetic recording medium exhibits excellent electromagnetic characteristics and improved abrasion resistance.

摘要: A magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The medium comprises a non-magnetic support having provided thereon a magnetic layer comprising a binder, a magnetic powder and a powder of an oxide represented by the formula:M-1.multidot.M-2.multidot.O.sub.2+xwherein M-1 is at least one of barium, strontium, lead and calcium; M-2 is at least one member of titanium, zirconium and tin; and x represents a number of from 0 to 0.9. The medium has a high S/N ratio and improved wear resistance and causes only moderate wear of a magnetic head.

An optional second intermediate layer contains carbon black and is provided on either surface of the first intermediate layer. 摘要: A method for preparing a magnetic recording medium is described, comprising (1) pre-dispersing ferromagnetic particles having an S.sub.BET specific surface area of 35 m.sup.2 /g or more and having an adjusted water content of 0.8 wt % or more with a binder, (2) adding an additional binder and a lubricating agent thereinto, mixing and dispersing them to prepare a diserpsion of a magnetic coating composition, and (3) coating the resulting dispersion of a magnetic coating composition on a non-magnetic support.

摘要: A magnetic coating composition comprising a binder dissolved in a solvent and magnetic grains dispersed therein is applied onto a surface of a non-magnetic substrate continuously moved. The coating film thus overlaid on the non-magnetic substrate is subjected to a preliminary orientation step for orientating the magnetic grains in the coating film, and then to a preliminary drying step. A final orientation step is then conducted while intermediate drying is carried out. Thereafter, final drying is effected.
