An ink leaking from an atmosphere communication hole of a waste ink container is guided to an end portion of the waste ink container. Electrodes are provided for shutting off an ink guide path. By this, the ink leaking through the atmosphere communication hole is inherently guided into the end portion of the container to come into contact with both of the electrodes. By contacting of the ink, a resistance value between the electrodes is varied to permit detection of ink leakage based on the variation of the resistance value. As a result, ink leakage from a waste ink container employed in an ink-jet printer or so forth can be certainly detected. Also, sealing ability of the waste ink container can be enhanced.

The carbonizing furnace includes a furnace proper being formed into a cylindrical shape, the furnace proper having a first end section, to which a combustible raw material is supplied, and a second end section, from which a carbide is discharged; a spiral member for conveying the raw material from the first end section to the second end thereof; and a burner for burning the raw material to make the carbide, the burner burns the raw material in the second end section whereby the raw material is carbonized therein, wherein a surface of the raw material is coated with an inorganic binder.

A liquid jet head can be detachably fitted into an opening portion of a liquid tank having a liquid absorbing member therein by a liquid receiving member with a liquid path formed therein. The liquid head has a filter, and the peripheral part of the filter is immovably embedded in the foremost end of the liquid receiving member such that the radially outermost end of the filter is not exposed, and the filter is maintained so as to have a dome-shaped contour adapted to come in pressure contact with the liquid absorbing member when the liquid jet head is fitted to the liquid tank by the immovable embedding of the peripheral part of the filter therein. A liquid jet apparatus with a liquid tank has a liquid absorbing member and an opening portion formed thereon, as well as a liquid jet head of this type. A method of immovably securing a filter to a liquid receiving member of a liquid jet head is also described.
