    摘要: This invention pertains to a method and apparatus for venting pressure from within a pressurized housing. It incorporates a sealing assembly that is secured within a housing and restrained against a pressurized channel by a nut. By loosening the nut, restraint on the sealing assembly is released thereby allowing fluid from the channel to travel the length of the sealing assembly and exit the housing. Conversely, by tightening the nut, restraint on the sealing assembly is reapplied which blocks the channel once again thereby preventing any more fluid from flowing.

    摘要: A three-phase stepping motor having first, second, and third sets of stator poles, with the first and second sets of stator poles having single coils thereon and the third set having dual or bifilar coils thereon. The coils on the first set of stator poles and one of the coils on each pole of the third set of stator poles are connected to one phase of a two-phase drive. The coils on the second set of stator poles and the other of the coils on each pole of the third set of stator poles are connected to the other phase of a two-phase drive. The currents of the two drive phases are thus magnetically combined in the third set of stator poles to produce energization of the "third phase". In one embodiment, a twelve-pole, rotary, three-phase stepping motor with a 50-tooth rotor and a 48- , 50-, or 52-tooth-pitch stator produces a step angle of 1.8.degree. mechanical with a two-phase drive.

    摘要: A method of completing a wellbore is disclosed wherein a low density spacer fluid is introduced into a wellbore and then a completion fluid, such as a cement slurry, to displace the spacer fluid. The spacer fluid comprises a nonagglomerating carrier fluid, such as water or the like, and discrete dispersible density reducing bodies, such as hollow spheres. The density reducing bodies aid in reducing the hydrostatic head of the spacer fluid, completion fluid, and existing wellbore fluids to prevent the hydrostatic head of such fluids from exceeding the fracture gradient of a highly porous, easily fractured formation.

    摘要: A process for reducing the waiting-on-cement (WOC) time associated with the cementing of a casing string in an oil well involving the specific improvement of pumping into the well a highly retarded cement slurry containing a dispersed encapsulated accelerator, such as calcium chloride or anhydrous sodium metasilicate, wherein the encapsulating material is specifically selected such that it will melt at a temperature above the bottom-hole circulating temperature but below the bottomhole static temperature of the well to be cemented. Petroleum-derived waxes and petroleum-derived waxes in combination with vinyl resins, such as wax-compatible copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, are particularly suitable as the meltable encapsulating material exhibiting excellent strength and abrasion resistance as well as serving as a moisture barrier. The improved process is particularly useful in cementing deep hot wells.

    摘要: An obturator assembly for penetrating tissue and being at least partially positionable within a cannula assembly includes an obturator housing, an obturator shaft connected to the obturator housing and defining a longitudinal axis, a penetrating member adjacent the distal end of the obturator shaft and an obturator shield mounted about the obturator shaft and having a distal shield nose. The obturator shield is adapted for longitudinal movement between an extended position where the penetration member is substantially enclosed within the shield nose and a retracted position where the penetrating member is at least partially exposed from the shield nose. A manually manipulative member is mounted to the obturator housing and is adapted for rotational movement about the longitudinal axis and relative to the obturator housing between an initial position corresponding to a first mode of operation where the obturator shield is secured in the extended position and the shield nose is used to penetrate tissue, and a release position corresponding to a second mode of operation operatively releasing the obturator shield to permit the obturator shield to move to the retracted position thereof to expose the penetrating member for penetrating the tissue. The obturator assembly may further include a latch member disposed within the obturator housing. The preferred latch member is in operative engagement with the obturator shield to secure the obturator shield in the extended position thereof. The latch member is actuable to release the obturator shield when the obturator housing is mated with the cannula assembly to thereby permit movement of the obturator shield toward the retracted position provided the manually manipulative member is in the release position. The obturator assembly further includes a release member which is mounted to the obturator housing and operatively coupled with the latch member. The release member is positioned to engage the cannula assembly upon mating of the obturator housing and the cannula assembly to thereby displace the release member and cause actuation of the latch member.

    摘要: A trocar system includes a cannula having a cannula housing and a cannula sleeve extending from the cannula housing, and an obturator at least partially positionable within the cannula. The obturator includes an obturator housing adapted for mating with the cannula housing, an obturator shaft connected to the obturator housing and receivable within the cannula sleeve, an obturator blade connected to the obturator shaft, a protective member including a protective guard coaxially mounted about the obturator blade and a latch member associated with the obturator housing and operatively connected to the protective guard. The obturator shaft and the obturator blade are adapted for relative rotational movement. The protective guard is adapted for longitudinal movement between a first position substantially enclosing the obturator blade and a second position to at least partially expose the obturator blade. The latch member is moveable from an initial position securing the protective guard in the first position to an actuated position operatively releasing the protective guard to permit the protective guard to move to the second position thereof. The latch member is preferably adapted to move to the actuated position upon mating of the obturator housing and the cannula housing.

The external wall includes a plurality of raised elements extending at least radially outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis and being in general longitudinal alignment. Adjacent raised elements are spaced along the longitudinal axis to thereby accommodate tissue displaced during passage of the penetrating member through tissue. The raised elements are dimensioned to be generally atraumatic to tissue. The raised elements may define an arcuate profile.
