Abstract: A wellbore fluid including a first surfactant, a second surfactant, an activator and an aqueous base fluid is provided. The first surfactant has a structure represented by Formula (I):
where Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 are each, independently, a sulfonate, a carboxylate, an ester or a hydroxyl group, m is an integer ranging from 2 to 3, and n, o, and k are each, independently, integers ranging from 2 to 10. The second surfactant has a structure represented by Formula (III):
where R2 is a C15-C27 hydrocarbon group or a C15-C29 substituted hydrocarbon group, R3 is a C1-C10 hydrocarbon group, and p and q are each, independently, an integer ranging from 1 to 4. A method of using the wellbore fluid for treating a hydrocarbon-containing formation is also provided.-

Abstract: A method for controlling loss circulation in a subterranean formation and a convertible drilling mud operable to convert into a solid gel lost circulation material. The method includes circulating in a wellbore a nanosilica drilling fluid having a pH in a range of from about 8 to about 11 and a gel pH of less than 8, where the nanosilica drilling fluid includes an aqueous-based drilling mud, an alkaline nanosilica dispersion, and at least one additive. The method also includes introducing into the nanosilica drilling fluid an amount of a chemical activator sufficient to produce a convertible drilling mud where the chemical activator is an acid and the pH of the convertible drilling mud is less than the gel pH. The method also includes allowing the convertible drilling mud to convert into a solid gel lost circulation material.

Abstract: A method for plugging and sealing subsurface formations using alkaline nanosilica dispersion and a delayed activation chemistry is disclosed. In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, the method includes introducing a mixture with a first pH into the subsurface formation. The mixture comprises an aqueous solution, an alkaline nanosilica dispersion and a water-soluble hydrolyzable compound. The method further includes allowing the water-soluble hydrolyzable compound to hydrolyze in the subsurface formation to form an acid at 70° C. or greater, thereby acidizing the mixture to a reduced second pH and causing the alkaline nanosilica dispersion to gel into a solid and seal the subsurface formation. A composition for sealing a subsurface formation is also disclosed. The composition includes an aqueous mixture including water, an alkaline nanosilica dispersion, and a water-soluble hydrolyzable compound.

The emulsion for hydraulic fracturing is a water-in-oil-in-water emulsion having an internal aqueous phase that includes a breaker, an external aqueous phase that includes a fracturing fluid and a proppant, and an intermediate hydrocarbon phase separating the internal aqueous phase and external aqueous phase. The emulsion may include nanometer-sized or micrometer-sized particles to form a Pickering emulsion.

Abstract: A lost-circulation material including a mixture of an aqueous colloidal dispersion and fatty acid. The aqueous colloidal dispersion includes silica nanoparticles and has a pH of at least 8. Combining the colloidal dispersion and the fatty acid initiates gelation of the lost-circulation material when the pH of the lost-circulation material is less than 8 and a temperature of the lost-circulation material is in a range of 5° C. to 300° C. Sealing an opening in a portion of a wellbore or a portion of a subterranean formation in which the wellbore is formed may include providing the aqueous colloidal dispersion and the fatty acid to the wellbore, mixing the colloidal dispersion and the fatty acid to yield the lost-circulation material, initiating gelation of the lost-circulation material, and solidifying the lost-circulation material in the wellbore to yield a set gel.

Abstract: A subterranean formation sealant includes a mixture of an aqueous colloidal dispersion including silica nanoparticles and a C6-C12 fatty acid. Heating the sealant above 70° C. initiates gelation of the sealant. Sealing an opening in a water or gas producing zone in a subterranean formation includes providing a sealant including a mixture of a colloidal dispersion including silica nanoparticles and a C6-C12 fatty acid to the water or gas producing zone, initiating gelation of the sealant in situ, and solidifying the sealant in the water or gas producing zone to yield a set gel, thereby sealing the opening in the water or gas producing zone.
