摘要: A vertical alignment liquid crystal panel based on a transverse electric field drive system is provided which shows few changes in color when looked squarely at. A liquid crystal panel (2) is a vertical alignment liquid crystal panel based on a transverse electric field drive system, which carries out a display by driving, with a transverse electric field, a liquid crystal layer (50) sandwiched between substrates (10, 20), and the substrate (10) is provided with an insulating layer (25) having at least two regions that are different in relative permittivity from each other in a pixel (6) composed of a red subpixel (6R), a green subpixel (6G), and a blue subpixel (6B). Those regions of the insulating layer (25) which correspond to the blue, green, and red subpixel (6B, 6G, 6R) in the liquid crystal panel (2) have relative permittivities of 3, 3 to 7, and 4 to 7, respectively.

摘要: The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing occurrence of flickers. The liquid crystal display device including a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to face each other, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal molecule having positive dielectric anisotropy; the liquid crystal molecule is perpendicularly aligned relative to a surface of the first substrate when no voltage is applied; the first substrate includes a pixel electrode to which an image signal is supplied, a common electrode to which a common signal is supplied, an insulating film, and a lower layer wiring connected to the pixel electrode; the lower layer wiring, the insulating film, and the common electrode are stacked in the stated order towards the liquid crystal layer side; the image signal is supplied to the pixel electrode through the lower wiring; the pixel electrode has a pixel comb-tooth portion; the common electrode has a common comb-tooth portion; the pixel comb-tooth portion and the common comb-tooth portion are planarly disposed to face each other in a pixel; the liquid crystal device has at least two regions having spacings of different lengths between the pixel electrode and the common electrode from each other in the pixel; the lower layer wiring overlaps the common comb-tooth portion and extends along the common comb-tooth portion; and a width of a part of the lower layer wiring which is overlapped with the common comb-tooth portion is substantially the same as or smaller than a width of a part of the common comb-tooth portion which is overlapped with the lower layer wiring.

摘要: A backlight system (30) includes a light emitting section (31) and an imaging optical system. The imaging optical system includes a first microlens array (MLA1) and a second microlens array (MLA2). The lenses (1A) separates the beams of light emitted from the light emitting section (31) by RGB, and causes them to be converged at a pitch same as a pitch at which the picture elements are arrayed. The lenses (2A) are provided in one-to-one correspondence to the picture elements such that the lenses (2A) have their respective focal points at positions onto which beams of light having passed through the lenses (1A) are converged. The lenses (2A) thus deflect the beams of light which have passed through the lenses (1A) in a substantially vertical direction with respect to the display surface of the liquid crystal panel.

摘要: This invention provides a liquid crystal display device in which response characteristics of liquid crystal molecules are improved. The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates that are disposed facing each other, and a liquid crystal layer that is sandwiched between the pair of substrates. The liquid crystal layer contains liquid crystal molecules having positive dielectric anisotropy. The liquid crystal molecules align in a vertical direction relative to surfaces of the pair of substrates in a state in which a voltage is not applied thereto. The pair of substrates includes two or more sets of comb-shaped electrode pairs in which comb tooth portions of each comb-shaped electrode are alternately disposed with each other with a certain space therebetween. One substrate of the pair of substrates comprises a first polarizer. The other substrate of the pair of substrates comprises a second polarizer. A long axis of a comb tooth portion of a first comb-shaped electrode pair among the two or more sets of comb-shaped electrode pairs and a transmission axis of the first polarizer form an angle of substantially 45°. A long axis of a comb tooth portion of a second comb-shaped electrode pair among the two or more sets of comb-shaped electrode pairs and a transmission axis of the second polarizer are in a parallel or orthogonal relationship with each other. The transmission axis of the first polarizer and the transmission axis of the second polarizer are orthogonal to each other. The first comb-shaped electrode pair and the second comb-shaped electrode pair overlap with each other when the surfaces of the pair of substrates are viewed from a normal line direction.

In the liquid crystal display element (10), projections (70) are provided in positions corresponding to boundaries (V1, V2, V3) of orientational regions in the liquid crystal layer (50), on a liquid crystal layer (50) side surface of the counter substrate (24). Each of the protrusions (70) has a taper shape.

The liquid crystal display device of the present invention comprises: a pair of substrates positioned to face each other; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer contains a liquid crystal molecule having positive dielectric anisotropy, the liquid crystal molecule is aligned in a direction vertical to surfaces of the substrates when no voltage is applied, one of the substrates comprises a first electrode and a second electrode, the electrodes respectively including comb-tooth portions that are alternately engaged at a certain interval, the first electrode comprises an extension in a layer separated by an insulating film from a layer in which an engagement between the comb-tooth portions of the first electrode and of the second electrode is formed, and the extension of the first electrode is positioned more distant from the liquid crystal layer than the comb-tooth portion of the second electrode is, and is positioned along the comb-tooth portion of the second electrode in an overlapping manner.

摘要: A liquid crystal panel (2) includes: a p-type liquid crystal material sandwiched between a pair of substrates (40, 20); and pixel electrodes (13), each formed from a comb electrode, and a common electrode (14) both provided to the substrate (40). A p-type liquid crystal material is aligned in a direction perpendicular to substrate surfaces while no electric field is applied. The comb electrodes each have an electrode width of not more than 5 μm and an electrode spacing of not more than 15 μm. The pixel electrode (13) and the common electrode (14) serve to apply to the p-type liquid crystal material an electric field parallel to the substrate surface. A voltage of not less than 7 V is applied between the pixel electrode (13) and the common electrode (14) when the liquid crystal panel is driven. The p-type liquid crystal material has, in a range from 0.9 to 2.5, a product of a dielectric anisotropy Δ∈ and a refractive index anisotropy Δn.
