    摘要: A digital coherent optical receiver provided with a 90-degree optical hybrid circuit for detecting an in-phase signal and a quadrature signal of an input optical signal, includes first through fourth circuits. The first circuit calculates a square of a sum of the in-phase signal and the quadrature signal. The second circuit subtracts a squared value of the in-phase signal and a squared value of the quadrature signal from the calculation result of the first circuit. The third circuit detects a phase error of the 90-degree optical hybrid circuit based on the calculation result of the second circuit. The fourth circuit corrects at least one of the in-phase signal and the quadrature signal according to the phase error detected by the third circuit.

    摘要: By using low-frequency signals, an optical transmitting unit modulates one of a wavelength, a transmission timing, and an intensity of light as a carrier wave. A polarization multiplexer synthesizes the output light signals, modulated by the optical transmitting unit, in polarization states orthogonal to each other and generates polarization-multiplexing signals. A polarization splitter splits by extracting two orthogonal polarization components from the polarization-multiplexing signals. The polarization states of the polarization-multiplexing signals are controlled by a polarization controller in an optical receiving unit. A band-pass filter extracts components transmitting through passbands from output signals of the optical receiving unit and outputs an intensity of the components. Based on the intensity output from the filter, a controlling circuit generates feedback control signals for maximizing a ratio of the components of the low-frequency signals and by using the feedback control signals, the polarization controller controls the polarization states of the optical multiplexing signals.

    摘要: The optical modulator branches an input light into (2×N) lights in an optical branching section, and then phase modulates each of the branched lights in (2×N) phase modulating sections, and couples the phase modulated lights in an optical coupling section and generates a quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) signal light having a 4N value. At this time, a relative difference of optical phases of the phase modulated lights is variably adjusted by an optical phase adjusting section. Moreover, a power ratio of the phase modulated lights is variably adjusted with an optical power adjusting section. As a result, it is possible to output 4N QAM signal light, with good signal quality.

    摘要: In an optical receiver according to the present invention, an input signal light subjected to the differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) is incident on a PANDA type fiber in a linearly polarized state by 45°, so that a delay time difference corresponding to one symbol is generated between orthogonal polarization components in the DQPSK signal light, and then, the signal light is branched by a half mirror into two, to be sent to first and second paths respectively, thereby giving, by a ¼ wave plate disposed on one of the paths, a relative birefringent amount difference of π/2 between the lights propagated through the respective paths. Then, each of the lights propagated through the first and second paths is separated into two orthogonal polarization components by a polarization beam splitter, and the respective polarization components are received by a differential reception circuit so that in-phase components and quadrature components in the DQPSK signal are demodulated. Thus, a small sized and low cost optical receiver capable of stably demodulating the DQPSK signal is provided.
