Abstract: An example barcode reader includes a housing having a window. An imaging assembly is recessed within the housing, has an imaging field-of-view (FOV) directed toward the window, and includes an imager configured to capture an image of an object positioned within a product scanning region. An illumination assembly is recessed within the housing and has an illumination FOV directed toward the window and overlaps the imaging FOV by at least 70% from zero to 3 inches from the window. A controller is configured to receive a captured image from the imaging assembly and to process the captured image to: determine if the object is a product for sale or a hand of a user; decode a barcode if the object is a product for sale; and identify elements of the hand of the user for identification if the object is the hand of the user.

Abstract: A slot scanner illumination system for a convertible slot scanner assembly includes a chassis having an optical cavity and a front opening. The optical cavity has an optical axis therethrough, with the optical axis being an axis along which light may be received by the chassis through the front opening. The front opening further has a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge. A scanning window is configured to at least partially cover the front opening of the chassis, and the scanning window has a normal axis orthogonal to a flat surface of the scanning window. An illumination element is disposed inside of the optical cavity of the chassis. The illumination element is disposed proximal the first edge of the front opening. The illumination element is configured to provide illumination along an illumination axis, wherein the illumination axis is non-parallel with the optical axis and at an angle directed toward the second edge of the front opening.

Abstract: A bioptic barcode reader is disclosed for selective use of illumination color to capture appropriate data. The bioptic barcode reader includes a housing and a primary imager positioned within the housing, configured to scan a target object during a first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a primary illumination source positioned within the housing configured to emit primary illumination in a primary wavelength range during the first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary imager configured to capture one or more images of a target object during a second time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary illumination source configured to emit secondary illumination in a secondary wavelength range during the second time period, wherein the second time period and first time period are interleaved and the secondary wavelength range is different from the primary wavelength range.

Abstract: Barcode readers with transflective mirrors are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing and a window positioned within the housing, an imaging sensor and an illumination source positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing. The field-of-view of the imaging sensor is directed through the window along a first central axis of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor and the illumination pattern from the illumination source is directed through the window along a second central axis of the illumination pattern that is substantially parallel to the first central axis of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor.
