摘要: A steam generating and condensing apparatus having a steam generating chamber in which a diluted solution flowing from an absorption device and containing a refrigerant absorbed therein flows outside of the pipes of a steam generating heat exchanger to evaporate the refrigerant from the diluted solution with a hot fluid flowing through the pipes of the steam generating heat exchanger, and a steam condensing chamber in which the refrigerant steam supplied through a partition from the steam generating chamber is condensed by a steam condensing heat exchanger. A double-cylinder assembly is provided composed of outer and inner cylinders, with the inner cylinder being divided by a dispersing end plate into upper and lower chambers serving as a dispersing diluted solution chamber and the steam generating chamber, respectively. The inner and outer cylinders jointly define a space in which the steam condensing chamber is disposed. The partition has eliminators on an upper portion thereof. The dispersing diluted solution pool is provided with a diluted solution inlet pipe. The steam generating chamber has a concentrated solution outlet pipe in a lower portion thereof.

摘要: An evaporator for increasing the solids content of a liquid-solids mixture employs vapor compressor means to recycle superheated vapors that are boiled off the mixture by a heat transfer fluid. The superheated vapors are forced into the mixture before the mixture is heated by passage over a heat transfer surface, and the vapors cause the mixture to flow past such heat transfer surface at sufficient velocity to prevent excessive solids from depositing on the heat transfer surface.

摘要: A vapor compression type distillation unit is provided for distilling brackish water or seawater wherein high heat transfer rates are achieved in a vertical shell and tube type vaporizer while avoiding carry-over normally resulting from excessive foaming and its entrainment of liquid droplets in the vapor. A pool of liquid is maintained at the lower end of the vaporizer to be fed into the tubes with the level of the liquid being relatively low so that most of the length of the tube is filled with a frothy mixture conducive to high heat transfer rates. The mixture of vapor and liquid discharged from the upper ends of the tubes is caused to flow laterally and then downwardly through a downtake passage communicating with the lower end of the vaporizer. A vapor outlet is provided intermediate the ends of the downtake passage in such a manner that the vapor must change its direction of flow, preferably substantially 180.degree., thereby facilitating the removal of droplets, and also slugs and bubbles, by centrifugal action. The incoming feed is preferably released above the body of liquid in such a manner that any gases or vapors contained therein can escape from the feed while the latter is falling downwardly into the body of liquid.

摘要: A vapor compression type distillation apparatus and method is provided for distilling brackish water or seawater wherein increased efficiency can be achieved by virtue of an arrangement and operation which maximizes the average effective temperature differential between steam being condensed and the water being vaporized. Thus a vertical shell and tube vaporizer is provided which includes an array of tubes which array has a width substantially greater than its depth. The liquid discharged from the upper ends of the tubes is caused to flow downwardly in a downtake passage into a body of water at the lower end of the vaporizer along substantially the entire width of the array. Feed water is fed into the body of water at the lower end of the vaporizer at one end of the array and blowdown is taken from such body at the other end of the array.

摘要: An improved dehydration method and apparatus for producing an anhydrous caustic product having a water content of 0.5 percent by weight or less. Caustic feed is heated to a temperature from about 600* to 700* F. and the water content removed therefrom in a two-stage vaporization process wherein the first stage is conducted in an evaporating chamber maintained at an absolute pressure of from 2 to 20 inches of mercury and the second stage is conducted in a flash tank maintained at an absolute pressure of below 5 inches of mercury, and preferably below 2 inches of mercury.
