Abstract:
An apparatus for investigating a sample with ultrasound has a probe head formed by a casing, a transducer element of piezoelectric plastics material, and a source for applying a high frequency pulse to the sample. The source is preferably one end of an optical fibre, which fibre extends to a laser remote from the probe head. The transducer element is connected to the sample by an acoustic coupling medium, e.g. water. Thus, the probe head can be moved relative to the sample, and a compact, but efficient, structure is achieved.
Abstract:
An arrangement for trimming short shavings from a seam inside a longitudinally welded pipe having a longitudinal axis, in which an inside shaving is scraped off continuously with a stationary blade by moving the pipe relative to the blade. The inside shaving is then cut up discontinuously with an actuated knife inside the pipe. The scraping procedure is carried out with scraping forces having a resultant force vector lying substantially in a plane through the longitudinal axis of the pipe and the seam. The scraping procedure is dependent on the speed of the moving pipe, whereas the cutting procedure is independent of the speed of the moving pipe.
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a cutting tool for removing upset from inside a tube and which does not force splatter into the inside surface of the tube. The cutting tool comprises a holder and means for enabling the tube to move along the holder. The enabling means is connected to the holder. The cutting tool is also comprised of means for removing the upset inside the tube. The removing means is connected to the holder such that as the tube moves along the holder, the removing means removes the upset from the inside of the tube. There is also means for preventing splatter from being forced into the inside of the tube by the enabling means as the tube moves along the holder. Preferably, the enabling means includes a roller connected to the holder such that the holder can roll along the tube on the roller, and the preventing means includes means for introducing fluid upstream from the roller such that the fluid prevents splatter from being rolled into the inside of the tube by the roller as the tube moves along the holder. The fluid creates a fluid barrier which forces the splatter around the roller so the splatter is not rolled into the inside surface of the tube.
Abstract:
An inner burr cutting, inner face cleaning and inner face painting apparatus for long pressure-welded pipes of medium and small diameters comprises a carriage mounted on a base for reciprocal movement, a supporting tube mounted on the carriage to be inserted into a long pressure-welded pipe of a small or medium diameter, a hollow rotary shaft projecting from the supporting tube, an inner burr cutting device fixed to the rotary shaft, a mechanism for centering the inner burr cutting device in the pressure-welded pipe, a spatter crushing brush, an electromagnet device for attracting spatters and inner burr chips, a spattering prevention device, a paint spraying device disposed ahead of the electromagnet device, and a cooling device surrounding the pressure-welded pipe. After the inner and outer burrs have been removed, the cooling device, spatter crushing device, electromagnet device and paint spraying device are used to clean the inner face of the pressure-welded pipe and paint the portions of the inner face of the pressure-welded pipe from which the inner burrs are removed and which are burnt.
Abstract:
A deburring device has a fixed or pivotable head on a rod or shaft which projects into the tube, pipe or other hollow to be deburred. The head has an oblique bore in which sits a tube; a cutting edge is provided along and around one end of that tube. Turning of the edge permits easy use of a new cutting edge portion. The position of the cutting tube is adjusted by a hollow nut through which runs also the removed burr. Guide rolls on the shaft position the tool, whereby rolls on the opposite side of the cutter are resiliently journalled.
