摘要:
A supplying tube 2 of a molten glass, which is placed in a downstream end portion of a supplying passage directing the molten glass flowing out of a melting furnace to a forming vessel 1a in a forming furnace 1, has a small diameter tube portion 2a which has a small flow passage area and is provided at an upstream side, and a large diameter tube portion 2c which is provided at a downstream side of the small diameter tube portion 2a and has a large flow passage area. An expanded diameter tube portion 2b of which flow passage area gradually expands toward the downstream side is interposed between the small diameter tube portion 2a and the large diameter tube portion 2c. The small diameter tube portion 2a, the expanded diameter tube portion 2b, and the large diameter tube portion 2c may be integrally and continuously connected to one another.

A method is disclosed for mechanically bonding a metal component to a ceramic material, comprising attaching an anchor material to at least a portion of one surface of the metal component, and then applying the ceramic material to at least a portion of the one surface of the metal component, such that after the ceramic material solidifies, the anchor material is substantially embedded in at least a portion of the ceramic material, thereby forming a mechanical bond between the metal component and the ceramic material via the anchor material. Also disclosed is an article comprising a metal component and a ceramic material mechanically bonded thereto through an anchor material attached to at least a portion of the metal component.

The present invention provides an improved apparatus for forming sheet glass, wherein the apparatus includes a reservoir from which to provide molten glass, an inlet plate in fluid communication with the reservoir to receive the molten glass from the reservoir in a flow direction, the inlet pipe having a cross-sectional area orthogonal to the fluid direction, and a trough in fluid communication with the inlet pipe to receive the molten glass and that is operably coupled to a wedge-shaped sheet forming structure to form the molten glass into a glass sheet. The improvement comprises a bowl that provides fluid communication between the inlet pipe and the trough, the bowl having a cross-sectional area orthogonal to a fluid direction at the molten through the bowl that is equal to or less than the cross-sectional area of the inlet pipe, thereby preventing stagnation of the molten glass within the bowl. Another embodiment of the present invention is a method that utilizes the inventive apparatus to form glass sheet.

A method and apparatus for the production of colored glass includes the steps of diverting a stream of clear molten glass from at least one glass melting furnace through one or more transport channels to a color treatment chamber. Recycled cullet and color additive are added to a charging end of the treatment chamber. The treatment chamber is heated to melt the cullet and further heat the remaining feedstock to form a molten bath of colored glass which is thermally and chemically homogenized in the treatment chamber. Refractory rotary paddle wheels positioned in the transport channels regulate the flow rate and level of the molten glass and provide for selective shut off of individual glass streams. A glass level sensor is located in an outlet channel of the treatment chamber and is electrically coupled to a programmable controller to selectively regulate the rotational speed of the paddle wheels responsive to glass level fluctuations to maintain a controlled gob weight of colored glass supplied to the glass forming machine.

A plurality of conduit segments contact on another which run vertically and transversely to the direction in which molten glass is channelled. Each segment includes at least one trough section and at least one cover section, an insulation of individual formed bodies, and an external casing. The segments are coupled together on support beams and may have removable insulation at joints to facilitate inspection.

A conduit for conducting molten glass in a glass making operation comprising an elongate superstructure, an elongate carriage, a plurality of refractory blocks assembled on the carriage to form a channel for conducting molten glass, and a plurality of rollers for supporting the carriage in the superstructure and allowing the carriage to be slid out of the superstructure for servicing. The conduit further comprises clamping members extending along the sides of the conduit roof, and support members on the superstructure which can be operated transversely inwardly to cause the clamping member to engage and support the roof so that the carriage can be removed from the superstructure independently of the roof.

A channel for the conveyance of molten glass comprises a body of molten metal such as tin whose temperature can be regulated, and on which the glass floats. There are chambers coated on opposite sides of the channel which communicate with the channel to supply molten tin to the channel. Both the chambers and the channel are equipped with heating and cooling elements. There are adjustably mounted lateral blocks having heating means within the blocks located toward the outlet end of the channel to limit the width of the molten glass stream therein.
