摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus for conditioning molten glass. The apparatus includes a connecting tube assembly having a conduit for conveying the molten glass, the conduit including at least two flanges and a sealing member disposed between the at least two flanges around an outer peripheral region of the flanges, thereby forming an enclosed volume between an outer wall of the conduit, the at least two flanges and the sealing member. An atmosphere within the volume may be controlled such that a predetermined partial pressure of hydrogen or a predetermined partial pressure of oxygen may be maintained within the volume. A current may be established between the at least two flanges to heat the conduit.

摘要: A glass manufacturing apparatus including a delivery vessel including a body portion with a cylindrical inner surface extending along a central axis of the body portion. In one embodiment, an upper end of the body portion is substantially equal to or lower than an uppermost portion of a travel path in a downstream end of a conduit connected to the delivery vessel. In another embodiment, a central axis of a delivery pipe is offset a distance from the central axis of the body portion of the delivery vessel. In still another embodiment, the delivery vessel includes a conical top including a taper angle from greater than 0° to about 20°. In further embodiments, methods include manufacturing glass with one or any combination of the above-referenced embodiments of glass manufacturing apparatus.

摘要: Channel apparatus for use with submerged combustion systems and methods of use to produce glass. One channel apparatus includes a flow channel defined by a floor, a roof, and a wall structure connecting the floor and roof, the flow channel divided into sections by a series of skimmers. Channel apparatus include both high and low momentum combustion burners, with one or more high momentum combustion burners positioned immediately upstream of each skimmer in either the roof or sidewall structure, or both, and one or more low momentum combustion burners positioned immediately downstream of each skimmer in either the roof, the sidewall structure, or both, and positioned to transfer heat to the molten mass of glass without substantial interference from foamed material. Certain embodiments include increased height of glass-contact refractory, in particular immediately upstream of the skimmers.

摘要: A glass forming apparatus for processing molten glass is disclosed comprising a delivery vessel for delivery molten glass to a forming body through a delivery conduit, the delivery conduit comprising a first portion have a circular cross-sectional shape, a second portion comprising a circular cross-sectional shape and a third portion comprising a non-circular cross-sectional shape. The delivery conduit further comprises a first transition portion coupling the second portion to the third portion, and a second transition portion coupling the third portion to an inlet of a trough in a forming body. Neither an inside bottom surface of the third portion, nor an inside bottom surface of the second transition portion, is lower than a bottom surface of the forming body trough. A method of processing molten glass is also described.

摘要: In a method of producing fibers having property enhancing inclusions, a molten material is supplied to a fiber forming apparatus. A controlled amount of particulate is added to the molten material. The molten material with the added particulate is formed into fibers. An undissolved portion of the added particulate forms inclusions in the fibers, the inclusions having an absorption index in a 2-7 μm wavelength region that is greater than a corresponding absorption index of the material.

摘要: The invention includes a method and an arrangement for influencing the flow of glass melts in a controlled way during the transfer from the melting furnace to a processing process. The simultaneous generation of electric and magnetic fields generates a force in the glass melt which boosts or inhibits the melt flow and acts substantially in the same direction as or in the opposite direction to the main direction of flow. It is in this way possible to control the melt flow without affecting the temperature of the melt. Consequently, the invention is suitable in particular for the accurately controllable feeding of a homogeneous glass melt to a glass production process.
