摘要： An aperture, covering including track-guided interconnectable panels that are compactly stored in a storage area containing weight counterbalancing mechanisms, such as a compressed spring, is described. When the panels are stacked in the storage area and removed one at a time, the first panel is removed from the storage area and enters the track. As the first panel moves through the track, it interlocks with the second panel and forces the second panel out of the storage area and into the track. Interlocking and removal of the panels continues until all of the panels are removed or the first panel reaches the end of the track. Weight counterbalancing can be assisted by track-contained mating mechanisms, cable and ball drive mechanisms, or other counterbalancing methods. The resulting aperture covering requires minimal storage space for the open aperture position, minimizes exposure to potentially hazardous counterbalancing mechanisms, and allows for heavy-weight panel construction.

摘要： A garage doorway enclosure for mounting within the opening of a garage includes a primary guide track extending along a length of the top wall of a garage doorway. The enclosure further includes a plurality of door panels hingedly connected to each other. A guide element protrudes from each panel and is received in the primary guide track for slidable movement of the panels therealong. The panels are movable in an accordion-like manner between a closed position in which the panels cover the doorway and a folded position adjacent a side wall of the doorway. The guide element of the panel adjacent the side wall is slidable within a secondary guide track that is normal to the primary guide track such that the panels can be outwardly displaced from the doorway. The panels are pivotal from the displaced position to a storage position adjacent an outer wall of the garage. The panels each have a plurality of louvers mounted on a first side for allowing a selective amount of light into the garage, and a mesh material on a second side for allowing air to flow therethrough.

摘要： An aesthetically-pleasing foldable, reusable security device and method for protecting double-hung windows from storm debris hazards and vandalism, wherein the perimeter edges of the device fit within the outermost groove of a double-hung window frame and can be easily installed and removed by one adult of ordinary strength and coordination standing behind the window. The device also protects the building against unauthorized entry and burglary, and is particularly useful for protecting upstairs windows since it requires no pre-installation steps or hardware, no professional installation, no tools, no ladder, and its installation does not permanently alter or damage the window or adjacent building surfaces. The device has at least two protective panels with two or more hinges attached between the front surfaces of adjacent panels which allow them to fold substantially parallel to one another in a compact configuration for storage, and unfold again into an essentially planar configuration for use. Straps are attached to the back surfaces of the two endmost panels, drawn around the window sashes and secured by them against the outer window frame, and then pulled taut behind the closed and locked sashes with a quick-release fastener. The protective panels may be transparent, translucent, or opaque, depending on the homeowner's preference or need, and the straps and panels can be color coordinated and can comprise decorative designs for enhanced aesthetic appeal. Also, the panels may optionally contain reinforcing bars, resilient edging and bullet-proof materials, one-way heat transfer materials, corrosion-resistant films, and multiple-layered panel construction.

The sides (76) are angularly interconnected with one another to form a plurality of angular engaging faces (77) at the junction of the sides (76) and also to form a hollow portion inside the drive wheel (66). A drive bracket (65) rotatably supports the drive wheel (66), the drive bracket (65) with the drive wheel (66) supported therein, being mounted in the support enclosure (16) adjacent to the track members (17). A counterbalance (67) is disposed in the hollow portion of the drive wheel (66). The inventive device includes a window frame and elongate first and second guide members that are disposed in the window frame. Each of the guide members has a top end, a bottom end, and a rod receiving slot that extends therethrough between the top and bottom ends of each guide member. A plurality of spaced apart elongate rods are disposed in the rod receiving slots of the guide members. A plurality of louver-type panels extend between the guide members and each of the panels is mounted on a respective rod. The rods are rotatable about their longitudinal axes between an open position and a closed position. Side edges of each of the panels are spaced apart from the side edges of the adjacent panels when the rods are in an open position. The side edges of the panels generally overlap portions of the adjacent panels when the rods are in a closed position. The panels may be lifted merely by sliding the lowest rod upwards up by using a lifting mechanism that is coupled to the lowest rod. The rods may also be selectively locked in place to prevent burglary.

The angle between adjacent blades is adjustable to provide for greater strength and stability at smaller angles, i.e., more blades per linear foot of the shutter, at smaller angles, and larger angles using fewer blades per linear foot for shutters, such as smaller width shutters which would require fewer blades per linear foot. The shutter can use either pulleys or direct mechanical drive mechanisms. The pulley systems or direct mechanical drive mechanisms can be powered by an installed electrical motor, a portable motor, or a hand crank for shutters of smaller size or to back up the installed electrical motor in case of power failure or motor failure.
