    摘要: Certain embodiments provide an image forming apparatus including: a paper feed section; an image forming section; a transport mechanism; a sheet sensor which detects leading and trailing edges of the sheet; a sensor power source which supplies electric power to the sheet sensor; a detecting section which specifies the position of the sheet based on the position of the sheet sensor in a transport path and a detection output from the sheet sensor; and a driving control section which generates a timing signal indicating a first detection period when a leading edge of the sheet is detected and a timing signal indicting a second detection period when a trailing edge of the sheet is detected, turns on the sensor power source in the first detection period and the second detection period, and turns off the sensor power source in a period different from the respective detection periods.

    摘要: An image reading apparatus of the present invention includes a document placing unit on which a document is placed, a light source unit in which light sources are arrayed in a depth direction, a light source drive unit that drives the light sources, and a light source control unit that controls so that the light sources are divided into a plurality of groups to be driven. An image sensor is provided at a position capable of receiving light emitted from the light sources and reflected by the document on the document placing unit. Further, the document size is detected through detection of a position of an edge of the document from an output signal from the image sensor. Then, the light source drive unit is controlled so that, when the image is to be read, the light sources are activated to illuminate the document.

    摘要: An apparatus for scanning a bound document is provided. The apparatus comprises a casing, an image-capturing assembly, at least a sensor and a controller. The casing has a first platen and a second platen disposed adjacent to each other, wherein the first platen having a scanning region is provided to support the bound document. The image-capturing assembly is disposed under the first platen for capturing an image of the bound document within the scanning region and generating an image signal. At least a sensor is disposed on the second platen for detecting the presence of the bound document. The sensor transmits a detection signal responsive to detection of the document presence. The controller is electrically connected to the image-capturing assembly and the sensor for executing a book-scanning mode responsive to the detection signal received from the sensor.

    摘要: An image processing apparatus determines a direction of document placement relative to a scanning direction based on a direction of a shadow region in an input image when a line sensor having a light receiving element performs a scan and an image read from a book document by a reading apparatus is input. When the direction of the binding portion of the document is determined to be along a longitudinal direction of the line sensor, an image of a region read by the light receiving element of the line sensor from reflected light undergoing specular reflection from the document is detected based on the amount of variation in luminance between adjacent pixels in the read image of the book document. Luminance of the image corresponding to the region is corrected.

    摘要: In continuous printing of plural sheets of recording paper, a controlling section of an image forming apparatus corrects a writing position for a first sheet of recording paper in accordance with an off-center amount detected by a carrying position sensor with respect to the first sheet of recording paper. As for an nth sheet of recording paper, the controlling section corrects the writing position for the nth sheet of recording paper in accordance with an off-center amount α(n−1) detected by the carrying position sensor with respect to an (n−1)th sheet of recording paper. In a case where an absolute value of a difference between an off-center amount αn detected by the carrying position sensor with respect to the nth sheet of recording paper and the off-center amount α(n−1) exceeds a threshold, the controlling section corrects the writing position in accordance with the off-center amount αn and causes an exposure unit to write again the electrostatic latent image at the writing position corrected in accordance with the off-center amount αn, instead of writing an electrostatic latent image at the writing position corrected in accordance with the off-center amount α(n−1). This makes it possible to minimize a decrease in printing speed and improve accuracy of a position with which an image is formed on a sheet of recording paper.

The light output from the LED 101 operating as the light source and passing through a slit 111 illuminates a surface of recording paper P on a recording paper conveyance guide 105. Besides, the recording paper conveyance guide 105 has a window opened for illuminating the recording paper from its underside in the present embodiment. The reflected light from the recording paper P is gathered via slits 112 and 113 and is received by the phototransistors 102 and 103.

Corrected measurement object image distances are formed through combining the deviation errors in the measurement object image distances with the corresponding measurement object image. These corrected measurement object image distances are used to determine distances between chosen pairs of those selected locations.
