The invention relates to a method and a device for creating pictures and more particularly a method for creating an enhanced picture by means of several consecutive exposures. The exposures are combined to create pictures with enhanced properties, especially better color and light content. Sufficient light is obtained by performing a series of first exposures together with one second exposure in rapid succession. The first exposures are combined to provide sufficient luminance and sharpness. The second exposure is made to collect color information. The first exposures are combined with the second exposure to provide an enhanced picture.

Provided is a printer controller for a pagewidth printer having a printhead configured to print ink supplied from an ink cartridge with print quality information. The controller includes a processor having an address, data and control bus, an expander unit and a decoder unit each coupled to the bus and configured to receive a page having a bi-level black layer and a continuous tone (“contone”) layer, to decompress the respective layers in parallel, to halftone the contone layer data to bi-level data, and to composite the bi-level black layer over the bi-level data to form an image. The controller also includes a replaceable ink cartridge comprising a first integrated circuit (IC) containing the print quality information and which is configured to be interfaced with the processor. Also included is a second IC interfaced to the processor which is configured to count a number of drops of ink printed by the printhead, to update a remaining drop count of the ink cartridge using the counted drops printed and then write an updated remaining drop count to the second IC each time a page has been printed.

What is disclosed is a novel system and method for emulating transparency in a PostScript-enabled image forming device, such as a PostScript-enabled print device. The present system and method uses Adobe's DeviceN color space to support transparency printing on PostScript-enabled devices. The present method uses abstract data represented by a color plane in DeviceN space to indicate the existence of a transparency layer in the image to be printed. An emulation procedure is then called to perform a color space transformation and to perform color blending of the first image into the second image. A transparency value is used as one of the colorant channels to define the blending. Advantageously, the present method is backward compatible as there is no update required to the printer's driver or firmware. The present method has been demonstrated to work with Adobe Reader and PostScript Level-3.

There is provided an output device including an inputting unit, an extracting unit, a calculating unit, an adjusting unit and an outputting unit. The inputting unit is configured to input an image file representing a motion image. The extracting unit is configured to extract, from the image file, a first frame image and at least one neighboring frame image that is chronologically continuous with the first frame image. The calculating unit is configured to calculate a total adjustment parameter for adjusting the first frame image based on the first frame image and the at least one neighboring frame image. The adjusting unit is configured to adjust the first frame image using the total adjustment parameter to generate a first adjusted output image. The outputting unit is configured to output the first adjusted output image.

An inkjet printer including a body housing a print engine configured to transport and print upon print media. The print engine includes a memory buffer of sufficient size to enable printing of one compressed page whilst receiving another compressed page. Each compressed page includes compressed contone data and compressed bi-level data. The print engine is configured to expand each compressed page during printing. A retractable cover is pivotally mounted relative to the body and is able to be pivoted to form a guide which can guide print media to the print engine for printing.

An image processing apparatus has a printing function. A preview original-image creation part creates an original image for preview based on print data. A preview parts-image creation part creates a parts image for preview peculiar to each equipment. A preview image synthesis part synthesizes a preview image from the original image for preview and the parts image for preview. A preview image retaining part retains the preview image.

In order to form an image without losing a moving image included in a structured document, an MFP, when forming an image, receives print data and a moving image from a PC, stores the moving image in association with second moving image identification information, embeds, in a still image included in the print data, the second moving image identification information for the stored moving image and positional information included in the print data, and forms the still image on a sheet of paper. When reading an image, the MFP 100 reads a still image formed on a sheet of paper (S71), extracts second moving image identification information and positional information from the read still image (S73, S75), acquires a moving image identified by the extracted second moving image identification information (S74), and generates a structured document in which the moving image is associated with the still image in such a manner that the moving image is displayed at a position specified by the positional information in the still image (S89).

A method of printing having the steps of receiving compressed page data that includes both continuous tone (“contone”) data and foreground bi-level data, and decompressing the contone data and the foreground bi-level data in parallel. The method also includes the steps of halftoning the contone data to bi-level color data and compositing the foreground bi-level data over the bi-level color data to create composited bi-level color image data, wherein the steps of halftoning and compositing are performed in parallel. The method also includes the step of printing the composited bi-level color image data.

A management label has a color loss determination area that enables easy determination of color loss. An identification color printing area 11 where an inventory control color for managing products and a color loss determination area 15 for determining color loss are printed on the label side 10a of an inventory management label 10. The color loss determination area 15 contains a color loss determination section 18 including the letters “NG” printed with a black coloring agent, and a background portion 19 that is printed using cyan, magenta, and yellow coloring agents. When there is no color loss and the letters “NG” and background portion 19 are printed normally, the letters “NG” and background portion 19 are both gray and the “NG” letters cannot be read. If one of the colors is lost, the printed colors change, the letters “NG” become discernable, and color loss can be easily determined.
