摘要： A fly fishing reel comprising a spool rotatably mounted in a casing and braking means for impeding rotation of the spool in one direction. The braking means comprises a ring mounted within the casing for rotation with the spool, a pawl pivotally connected to the ring, and a rotatable plate having a ratchet engageable with the pawl whereby the pawl and spool effect rotation of the plate. A washer is disposed between the casing and the plate for frictionally impeding rotation of the plate. A spring is provided for urging the plate against the washer and toward the casing and thereby preventing rotation of the plate when the spool and ring rotate in one direction, and causing the plate to rotate with the ring and spool when the spool is rotated in the other direction.

摘要： Anti-reverse mechanism for fishing reels is provided which includes a notched wheel having a pair of dogs resiliently urged into engagement therewith, one dog having an anti-torque spring to produce silent operation and the other dog as it is urged into engagement with the wheel producing an audible sound.The silent dog is engaged by a cam which urges it out of wheel engagement and which through an arm urges the audible dog out of engagement for reverse wheel movement. The audible dog can also be urged out of engagement by a cam thereby permitting selective silent or audible anti-reverse action as desired.The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the scope of my invention and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this patent reference must be made to the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description.

摘要： A casting reel spool speed control device comprises a disc member for rotation with a reel spool within, spaced from and relative to a cylindrical housing secured to a reel cage. Two or more pawl-shaped speed control fingers are freely, pivotally mounted in slots opening onto the rim of the disc member to move under the combined counter-balancing influence of centrifugal force and air resistance between retracted positions in the slots and deployed positions in which the bevelled finger tips lightly brush or just clear the inner circular surface of the cylindrical housing. The speed control or braking action is very light and is just sufficient to cure the problem of reel overrun during casting upwind.

摘要： A free spool mechanism for a reel of the bait casting type. The drive train between the crank and the line spool comprises at least a drive gear and a pinion gear, the teeth of which remain continually in mesh. The pinion is adapted to be axially translated, and a clutch between the pinion and the line spool is selectively engaged and disengaged upon axial translation of the pinion. Axial translation of the pinion is effected by a shift member that simultaneously translates and swings. Tynes on the shift member continually engage the pinion and shift it axially in response to movement of the shift member in order to engage and disengage the clutch. Upon the application of generally radially directed force to the knob that is presented by the shift member exteriorly of the reel, the pinion is translated to disengage the clutch means, and a spring which is positioned between the frame and the shift member biases the latter to translate the pinion in the opposite direction to engage the clutch. A latch on the frame maintains the pinion with the clutch disengaged until the crank is turned to retrieve line at which time a throw incorporated in the pinion releases the latch.

摘要： A self-contained powered fishing reel having an auxiliary manual operating mechanism. The reel, motor, drive mechanism, power source, and power connections may be contained as a complete unit in a housing which may be selectively mounted on any fishing pole of standard design. The reel includes a flyer and a spool and is associated with a tension sensing assembly which connects or disconnects the power source depending upon the line tension. The flyer normally rotates until tension is built up because of a fish on the line. When a predetermined line tension occurs, the flyer is moved axially in one direction to de-activate a switch and disconnect the power source. The fish line becomes slack while the flyer moves axially in another direction by spring force to activate the switch and connect the power source. Thus, the flyer rotates and winds the line on the spool thereby taking up the slack and again building up tension on the fish line.

摘要： A power fishing reel having a reversible drive for raising and lowering metal line and a heavy sinker in deep-water trolling. A fishing line, bait, and hooks are releasably attached adjacent the sinker and are thus put down to the desired depth and separate from the sinker line upon a fish taking the bait. Drive is controlled by a switch so that when a fish is caught, the fisherman throws the switch and the sinker line and sinker are pulled up by the power reel, preventing fouling of the lines by the action of the fish. The reel is provided with drive disengagement means to lower the sinker quickly by gravity, brakes to control the outrun to prevent back-lash, level-wind means, a displaceable sheave to insert the line radially, and a two position roller for leading the sinker line to the center of the sheave on either side of a boat with the roller absorbing angular changes at the sheave from pitching and rocking of the boat.

摘要： An apparatus for controlling the tension of the line in a fishing reel which includes a spool which is connected to a crank and which is attachable to the handle of a fishing rod. Selfcompensating alignment of the elements in a system for braking the rotation of the spool is provided by a snap ring, a retaining pin, and an actuating pin which cooperate with the braking system elements and which are retained in an annular groove, an aperture and slots in a hollow cylindrical shaft on which the spool is journalled. Dissipation of heat generated during braking is provided by tapered elements in the braking system. Sealing rings positioned in annular grooves in pistons, and a braking pressure transmitting medium located between the sealing rings, are provided in the hollow cylindrical shaft to interact with the braking system to maximize the adjustability and smoothness of operation of the braking pressure which is generated by an adjusting cap and which is transmitted through the hollow cylindrical shaft to the braking system. A resilient ring member fits onto the outer surface of the hollow cylindrical shaft and interacts with the braking system to provide biased return for reducing the braking pressure. A biased connector in the adjusting cap prevents extraneous forces from affecting the generated pressure which is transmitted to the braking system. A spherical member positioned intermediate the biased connector and pistons in the hollow cylindrical shaft prevents further variation of the generated pressure in transmission to the braking system, and a plug member is provided which seals the hollow cylindrical shaft to prevent tampering or disassembly.

摘要： A fishing reel comprises a spool mounted between two connected together flanges and a crank for turning the spool projects outwardly from one of the flanges, the crank is provided with a bell-shaped housing therein and a variably set torque limiting device interconnecting the crank and spool is disposed in the housing. The torque limiting device comprises a disc clutch assembly having a plurality of friction washers disposed between bearing surfaces connected to both the crank and a gear system for rotating the spool. The torque limiting device is variably set by the user to effect slippage therein at any desired torque value resulting in relative rotation between the crank and the spool. In addition, the torque limiting device is contained in a cartridge and is removably mounted in the fishing reel assembly.
