    摘要: A machine wherein wire is being withdrawn from a reel or barrel by a wire comb forming unit which draws the wire at a given frequency has a lever which is pivoted at such frequency by a rotary cam and carries a first roller. The lever is pivotable about the axis of a second roller and the wire is trained first over the second roller and thereupon around the first roller on its way toward the wire comb forming unit. The pivoting lever ensures that the wire is drawn from the reel or barrel at a constant speed in spite of intermittent consumption of wire in the wire comb forming unit. The diameters of the two rollers are the same.

    摘要: The specification discloses a kit for making a universal clip. The kit includes a base having a horizontal top surface and a vertical side surface. Mounting apertures are disposed in the base for receiving fasteners to mount the base on support structure. A metallic cylinder and a pin extend upwardly from the top surface of the base spaced apart at a predetermined distance. The base also includes two horizontal bores of different bore depths and an oblique bore extending through the top and side surfaces for use in forming a tip on the universal clip. The universal clip is formed from a metallic wire that is wrapped around the cylinder to form a spring loop and forced against the pin to crook the wire to form two arms. A tip is formed on the end of each arm by bending the ends of the wire using the two horizontal bores in the base. The completed universal clip includes a loop spring portion, two arms, a tip portion, and a bushing encompassing the two arms and movable between a locked closed position and an open position.

    摘要: Apparatus for looping the free end portions of the outermost convolutions of helical binders which are threaded through the perforations of a stack of loose leaves has a pivotable tool with a cutting edge which clips the end convolution of a properly located binder and a bending edge which bends the free end portion of the clipped end convolution over the neighboring convolution. A rotary loop forming device is thereupon actuated by a lever to convert the deformed end portion into a loop which surrounds the neighboring convolution. The loop forming device has a guide face which cooperates with a parallel second guide face provided on a reciprocable hold-down device which is caused to extend between the end convolution and the neighboring convolution while the end portion is converted into a loop. These guide faces cooperate with a guide face of a locating projection for the binder and with a guide face of the tool to define a channel which confines the end portion during loop forming so that the loop is located in a plane which includes the axis of the binder. The hold-down device has a notch which receives and prevents deformation of the remaining part of the outermost convolution while the free end portion is being looped around the neighboring convolution.

    摘要: A machine which converts a strand of wire into a body of meandering shape has two carriers which rotate about parallel axes and respectively carry annuli of pins. One annulus of pins surrounds the other annulus of pins, and each pin of one annulus is adjacent to a pin of the other annulus. When the carriers rotate, neighboring pins of the two annuli move toward each other during one-half of each orbital movement about the respective axes and away from each other during the other half of each orbital movement. A looping device winds the wire alternately about the oncoming pins of the inner and outer annuli while the neighboring pins move away from each other whereby the wire is converted into a meandering body and the wire portions between successive pins are stretched to assume a predetermined shape. The meandering body is stripped off the pins while the neighboring pins move nearer to each other. The meandering body can be used as a starting material for binders which connect the sheets of note books, calendars or the like.

    摘要: A low cost, lightweight, helically preformed line tie is disclosed which is configured for yieldably securing an elongated conductor or the like to various standard sizes of conventional, grooved insulative supports without the need for specialized ties by provision of a unitary, substantially shape-retaining resilient metallic wire tie which includes a central, generally U-shaped, line-receiving bight and a pair of legs extending therefrom which have intermediate sections adjacent the bight and helically formed line-gripping terminal sections; in preferred forms, the intermediate sections include a pair of interconnected, generally straight segments disposed at an angle relative to each other, and the intermediate sections are wrapped under tension about the support body with the helical leg sections secured about the line for yieldably securing the latter to the support without creation of localized, rigidly held stress areas at the line support points which can lead to premature line failure by virtue of bending movements of the line at the support points. In this manner characteristic wind-induced line vibrations can be safely and effectively dampened along a relatively long length of the line adjacent the insulator which reduces wear and tear of the line. A simplified tie forming method is also provided which permits essentially automatic, assembly line production of the ties through the use of sequential bend-forming stations and a unique mandrel-type helical forming station which completely eliminates complicated forming implements and methods heretofore employed.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for automatically producing bent wire clips comprises a vertical and horizontal wire straightener which receives and straightens a continuous length of wire, a hitch feed assembly through which the wire passes and which is adjustable to measure and intermittently feed the exact length of wire required for the various sized clips, a wire cutoff assembly, a wire-forming means and a grommet inserting means. As the wire piece is cut off from a length of continuous wire it is gripped by a pair of upper and lower coacting pressure plates which clamp a central portion of the wire piece and secure it during formation of the clip ends. To form a spiral end standoff clip that may be snapped on a cylindrical pole the wire forming means comprises a rotating and laterally movable spiral twist winder which forms the one end of the wire piece about a twist wind arbor while a grommet hook has been formed on the forward end of the wire piece. An insulating grommet may be supplied by a feed system and pushed into the grommet hook by a synchronized air ram. The upper and lower pressure plates now release the finished product and the same is blown off the spiral twist winder onto an extension arm from which it may be counted and packaged.
