摘要: A high efficiency batch sulfuric acid reprocessor system that is capable of producing high purity acid through distillation. Methods of use are also provided. The distillation is monitored and controlled in accordance with temperatures of the system, in particular, the temperature of the column and the temperature of the vapor in a condensing chamber. A stream splitter enables the invention to selectively collect high purity product as well as remove waste or recycle condensate as reflux.

摘要: In the production of nitrobenzene by subjecting benzene to nitration with a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid, separating off the nitrobenzene formed, concentrating the sulfuric acid by evaporation and returning the concentrated sulfuric acid to the bezene nitration stage, the improvement which comprises concentrating sulfuric acid to a concentration of from 75 to 92% by evaporation in vacuo at temperatures in the range from 130.degree. to 195.degree. C. Thereby the energy per kg of water evaporated is drastically reduced compared to processes wherein the sulfuric acid is concentrated to a higher level, without a corresponding loss in efficiency or capacity.

摘要: A process for producing concentrated sulphuric acid from a hot gas stream comprising water and sulphur trioxide which process comprises feeding a first portion of said gas stream through a first sulphur trioxide absorption zone and a second portion through a second sulphur trioxide absorption zone; feeding a recycled sulphuric acid stream to said first sulphur trioxide absorption zone whereby substantially all of the sulphur trioxide and sulphuric acid are removed from said first portion of said gas stream to produce an enlarged sulphuric acid stream; recycling a first portion of said enlarged sulphuric acid stream through said first sulphur trioxide absorption zone; feeding a second portion of said enlarged sulphuric acid stream to said second sulphur trioxide absorption zone; and collecting sulphuric acid product from said second sulphur trioxide absorption zone; wherein the ratio of gases to sulphuric acid in said second sulphur trioxide absorption zone is such that the sulphuric acid product leaving said zone is of the desired concentration to a maximum of the azeotropic concentration. The process is of value in the production of concentrated sulphuric acid from waste sulphuric acid.

摘要: The present invention provides a unique structure for concentrating mineral acids, and particularly sulphuric acid wherein a plurality of long quartz tubes extend vertically through a furnace and have vertically lower ends in communication with a receiving vessel. The quartz tubes are surrounded by tube units and flow passageways are created on either side of the tube units for directing hot combustion gases along the quartz tubes, providing convective and radiative heat transfer to the tubes as required to heat the acid flowing therethrough. An assembly is positioned for generating turbulance within the gas flow passageway to achieve a vigorous turbulance of the hot combustion gases.

摘要: An improved method for reducing the content of water in aqueous sulfuric acid solutions by electrolysis is provided wherein a sufficient amount of a chlorine containing oxidizing agent is provided in the solution in the vicinity of the cathode to prevent the build-up of sulfur deposits thereon. In an integrated system, drying of a wet fluid stream on a continuous bases is effected by contacting it with concentrated sulfuric acid and purifying and recycling the sulfuric acid by the method of this invention, only a small inventory of the sulfuric acid being required.
