    摘要: A process and an apparatus for continuously conveying particulate material includes pressurizing a carrier fluid and admitting it at a predetermined flow rate and pressure to a path. A de Laval nozzle having a diffusing cone section accelerates the pressurized carrier fluid in a downstream portion of the path to a relatively higher flow rate and also expands the carrier fluid to a relatively lower pressure. A mixing chamber receives the reduced-pressure accelerated carrier fluid, and a feeder device supplies particulate material to the mixing chamber so that the high speed of the carrier fluid will entrain the particulate material in a region where the low pressure of the carrier fluid will cause the particulate material to be free of any agglomerations or lumps.

    摘要: Two spaces are provided, one of which is at a higher pressure than the other. A transfer arrangement serves for transferring a finely divided solid material, e.g., a combustible fuel, from one to the other space, usually from the lower-pressure space into the higher-pressure space. This arrangement includes a housing bounding a spherical chamber having two openings each of which communicates with one of the spaces. A spherical body is located turnably in the housing and provided with a blind bore the open end of which can be placed into communication with one or the other of the openings, depending upon the turning of the spherical body. A piston is reciprocable in this bore and can be retracted to draw a quantity of solid material into the blind bore when the open end thereof registers with one of the openings, and can be advanced for expelling the quantity when the open end registers with the other of the openings. A direct communication between the two spaces is therefore reliably avoided at all times.

    摘要: Charging apparatus is provided for charging preheated coal into a battery of coke oven chambers from a bunker above the battery which has sufficient capacity to contain enough coal to charge at least one oven chamber. Each oven chamber has a plurality of charging holes in the roof and the charging holes of the several chambers are arranged in rows extending longitudinally of the battery. A vibratory conveyor is associated with each row of charging holes for selectively delivering coal to the holes, and coal is supplied from the bunker to each conveyor through a measuring chamber which holds a predetermined amount of coal and delivers exactly the right amount to the conveyor for charging one oven chamber.

    摘要: A furnace has a normally closed filling inlet. There is provided an arrangement for opening the filling inlet, then filling the interior of the furnace with a charge, and then reclosing the inlet, all in gas-tight and dust-tight manner, in order to prevent the free escape of dust and gases into the ambient atmosphere during the filling of the furnace. The arrangement includes a housing having an opening positioned in proximity to the normally closed filling inlet. A sealing arrangement is activatable for establishing a gas-tight and dust-tight seal between the portion of the housing surrounding the housing opening and the portion of the furnace surrounding the normally closed filling inlet, so as to confine within the interior of the housing any dust and gas entering the filling inlet or escaping from the filling inlet during the filling of the interior of the furnace. Inside the housing there is provided an arrangement activatable for opening and closing the normally closed filling inlet of the furnace. A filling arrangement is operative for conveying a charge through the interior of the housing and into the furnace filling inlet. The filling arrangement has a discharge end portion located within the housing gas-tightly and dust-tightly connected to the housing so that dust and gas leaving the discharge end portion but not entering the filling inlet is confined within the housing and is unable to freely escape into the ambient atmosphere. Advantageously, the arrangement is used in conjunction with a battery of furnaces having respective filling inlets arranged in a row, and the arrangement, as a whole, is movable into sealing engagement with successive ones of the filling inlets for filling successive ones of the furnaces.

The arrangement of the rabbles are such as to permit for the feed on to the hearth of the furnace materials of differing characteristics and to retain such differing materials in a separate state or row upon the hearth until the same are withdrawn from on to the hearth and directed to a suitable discharge or exit area. In certain instances, and where desired, the materials of one row may be caused to mix with the materials in the next adjacent row and to remain in such a mixture throughout the travel of the materials on the hearth.
