    摘要: A papermaking vacuum apparatus having a web-facing surface adapted to support a papermaking belt and comprising a head, a body and at least one vacuum slot disposed in the head and defining an aperture on the web-facing surface. The vacuum slot is in fluid communication with the web-facing surface and extends from the web-facing surface to the body which is in further fluid communication with a vacuum source. The web-facing surface comprises a textured area in the region of the web-facing surface juxtaposed with the aperture defined by the vacuum slot. This textured area creates a leakage of at least about 35 Marlatts at a pressure differential of 7 inches of Mercury. This leakage eliminates the vacuum seal between a smooth backside of the papermaking belt and the web-facing surface of the vacuum apparatus.

    摘要: A loading box adjustable in zones thereof for a former of a paper or board machine. The former comprises a twin-wire section including two wires placed one above the other and running in the same transfer direction. In the twin-wire section, a drain box is mounted at one side of the wires to remove water out of a fibrous pulp running between the wires. At the opposite side of the wires, a loading box is mounted and is provided with loading ribs arranged in the transverse direction in relation to the transfer direction and which extend across the web width. The loading ribs are loaded toward the bottom of the drain box in order to produce a desired compression in the fibrous pulp running between the wires. The loading box is provided with loading members arranged to produce a locally raising or lowering force applied to the loading ribs in the direction transverse to the transfer direction. The force is applied simultaneously to at least two successive loading ribs to profile the compression force applied by the loading ribs to the fibrous pulp in the transverse direction.

    摘要: An adjustable twin-wire gap former is provided for forming a fiber web from an aqueous fiber suspension. The twin-wire gap former is arranged so that the first and second coacting, traveling, looped forming wires have juxtaposed sections, which define a forming zone and confine a paper web therebetween during its formation. A first means for providing suction is located adjacent the first wire fabric in the forming zone for draining water from the suspension and a second means for providing suction is located adjacent the second wire fabric in the forming zone. This second means for providing suction is movable toward and away from the second wire thus adjusting the geometry of the forming zone. Preferably a central operator controls the vacuum in the suction boxes and the pressure exerted by the boxes onto the forming fabric independently of each other.

The component includes a supporting structure and a water permeable member is mounted on the supporting structure and is adapted to support a paper web. The water permeable member comprises a rigid mass of ceramic foam having a plurality of interconnected cells. The ceramic foam has an air permeability in the range of 10 to 1,000 cubic feet per square foot of surface area per minute and has a density of 5 to 100 lbs/cubic foot. When a pressure differential is applied to the permeable member to the paper web, moisture will be extracted from the web and passes through the permeable member.

    摘要: An improved vacuum box is described for holding a paper web onto a supporting fabric wherever velocity stresses would otherwise separate the web from its supporting fabric and expose the web to those stresses. Specially shaped vacuum boxes are fitted into the dryer "pockets" formed between the rows of a double row of adjacent drying cylinders and the web traveling a serpentine path between them. Pressure differential zones of the box hold the web onto its supporting fabric as the web and fabric travel between heated drying cylinders. A first zone leads the departure of the web and fabric from the web-wrapped cylinder to ensure that the web is positively held to the fabric as it leaves the cylinder. A second arcuate suction zone adjacent a fabric-wrapped cylinder evacuates grooves in the adjacent cylinder. This system holds the web onto its fabric, overcoming centrifugal stresses on the web, as the web-fabric combination passes about a cylinder with the fabric in direct contact with the cylinder and the web in indirect contact. A third pressure differential zone ensures the web is held to its supporting fabric as it travels from the fabric-wrapped cylinder to the next web-wrapped cylinder in the drying sequence. The vacuum box is provided with seals between box surfaces and the fabric that reduce air leakage into the box yet accommodate waste paper passing between the drying cylinder surfaces and box surfaces without damage to the box or fabric. Box end seals perform a similar function. The end seal is provided with a spring and pivot arrangement which cooperate to accommodate waste. The top portion of the vacuum box is a curved surface designed to deflect at least a portion of the stray currents that typically flow in the dryer pockets and tend to lift the web from its supporting fabric. While the suction surface zones are generally open surfaces, a roller wearing surface may be provided which reduces the wear of the felt in passing through the vacuum box suction zones. The vacuum box may be compartmentalized across the width of the machine to permit reducing vacuum demand during start-up of the paper web through the machine.
