    摘要: Spring loaded seals comprised of two resting rings positioned in an annular groove of a piston that are pressed against the upper and lower shoulders of the groove by a corrugated spring fitted therebetween. Each resting ring has at least one free-floating sealing wedge, preferably made of ceramic material, which overlaps the outer peripheral edge thereof for sliding along the cylinder wall wherein the sealing wedges frictionally press against the cylinder wall during the stroke of the piston in one direction and release to more freely slide along the cylinder wall in the other direction. The resting rings and sealing wedges form dry seals, i.e. unlubricated sliding seals, for use in compressor devices which operate at either high or low temperatures.

    摘要: A plastic ring for internal combustion engine pistons. In a preferred embodiment, the ring has a flat outer diameter adapted to engage the inner diameter of a compression piston ring and an inner diameter adapted to engage the backwall of the ring groove. An axial groove slightly spaced from the outer diameter extends into the ring from the top thereof, whereby combustion gases will expand the ring so that it acts as a circumferential expander for the compression ring while preventing blowby of gases through the ring groove. In another modification, the ring is used with its outer diameter acting against the cylinder wall.

    摘要: A sealing assembly especially adapted for high pressure hydraulic applications includes a circumferentially compressible seal ring having stepped overlapping ends and a resilient expander, preferably of oval cross-section, which assists in urging the compressed seal ring into sealing communication with the thus sealed surfaces. The seal ring is manufactured with an oversized closed gap condition from a filled synthetic material having a modulus of elasticity sufficient to permit compression thereof when the seal ring is installed between the thus sealed surfaces. The ring may optionally include a secondary resilient sealing member positioned between the axial, internal surfaces of the steps.

    摘要: A composite metal and plastics piston ring having a controlled operative load-deflection ratio. The piston ring is composed of a circumferentially expansible and contractible channel-type metal ring component and an elastomeric plastics material ring component anchored to and supported by the metal ring. The plastics material ring component has a peripheral wall and side walls with at least one side wall having integral ribs projecting therefrom into the gaps between the segments of the metal ring component and the ribs being spaced from the segments in the expanded free condition of the composite ring but engaging the segments to seal the gaps in the contracted, use condition of the composite ring. The composite piston ring is formed by compacting an elastomeric plastics material in a segmented circumferentially expansible and contractible channel-type metal ring component in its expanded, free condition to form a continuous plastics material ring component therein, contracting the compacted plastics-filled metal ring to its use condition to form ribs of the plastics material in the gaps between the segments of the metal ring component, and heating the compacted plastics-filled metal ring in its expanded, free condition to sinter the plastics material ring therein in an integrally bonded relation to the metal ring providing a composite metal and plastics piston ring.
