摘要: A wall or other surface is coated by applying a multiplicity of tiles to adhere to the surface, the edges between adjacent tiles being separtated by grouting materila comprising a vitrifiable particulate material incorporated in a binder, and applying local heat from a source of heat to the grouting material to cause vitrification of the particulate material thereby to weld the tiles together.

摘要: Protection of microwave antennas from incident irradiation from high power lasers is accomplished by placing a protective covering or radome over antenna elements to be protected. The radome is constructed such that it is substantially transparent to electromagnetic radiation in the microwave frequency range and at the same time substantially opaque to electromagnetic radiation in the laser frequency range. The radome is constructed of multilayers of a refractory ceramic material, such as boron nitride and beryllium oxide, spaced apart with the spaces evacuated. When the electromagnetic radiation from a high power laser strikes the radome of this invention, the opaqueness to the laser energy causes a conversion to heat energy which is then insulated from sensitive antenna elements by the evacuated spaces separating the refractory ceramic layers.

摘要: An organometallic polymeric resin is used to impregnate glass filaments (ororon, graphite, carbon, etc.) which are employed in the fabrication of composite motor cases and inert components of a solid propulsion system. The resulting motor case or inert component has the ability of regulating the amount of damage that a nuclear blast would inflict on the solid propulsion system to a level which is below the threshold damage value and the system remains operable. The metal of the organometallic polymeric resin is integral with the resin molecule. The preferred metal is tin which is effective in imparting an ability to stop or slow the passage of photon energy because of its capacity to absorb such energy. Representative of the organometallic polymer is an organotin-containing acrylate polymer which is capable of undergoing polymerization into transparent, easily-formed, mechanically-strong, heat-stable glasses which are capable of stopping, or retarding the rate and amount of penetration of radiation from nuclear blasts. The boron, graphite, and carbon can be used as an additive to the composite motor case ingredients, or can be used along with glass fibers, or can be used separately as the major constituent of an inert motor component such as throat insert, nozzle, conical transition section, nozzle expansion cone, heat shield, insulation, and liner material.

摘要: A shield for shielding against radiation from a nuclear blast. The shield comprised of an aluminum body structure, a tin sheet bonded to the outer surface of the aluminum body structure, a glass filament reinforced epoxy resin matrix composite plastic material wrapped about the tin material and an outer layer of external thermal ablative insulation. The glass filament wrapping of the tin material causes the tin material to act as an effective shielding material by maintaining integrity of the tin when exposed to radiation.

摘要: An on-body injector system includes a drug container assembly including a container, a seal member, and a sealing interface between the seal member and the container. The container includes an opening and the seal member at least partially covers the opening in the container. A fluid pathway assembly is coupled to the drug container assembly and includes a needle that is movable between a storage position, in which a point of the needle is spaced from the seal member, and a delivery position, in which the point of the needle is disposed at least partially through the seal member. A radiation generator is configured to emit rays of radiation to sterilize and/or disinfect the sealing interface. A barrier is disposed adjacent to the sealing interface and has an opening. At least a portion of the drug container assembly is positioned adjacent to the opening in the barrier.
