Abstract: A decoding method is disclosed. A quantization parameter of at least one luma block is obtained. The at least one luma block comprises a luma sample co-located with at least one chroma sample selected in a current chroma block. The luma and chroma blocks are coded in dual tree mode. A quantization parameter of the current chroma block is then determined responsive to the quantization parameter of the at least one luma block. Finally, the current chroma block is decoded using the quantization parameter of the current chroma block.

Abstract: Different implementations arc described, particularly implementations for selecting a scan order of the sub-blocks of a current block being encoded or decoded when the current block is composed of multiple sub-blocks. In one example, a corresponding dependency number indicative of a number of the other of the plurality of sub-blocks that each of the sub-blocks uses for spatial prediction is determined, based on the corresponding intra prediction mode for the each of the plurality of sub-blocks. A scan order of the plurality of sub-blocks is determined based on the determined corresponding dependency number for the each of the plurality of the sub-blocks. The current block is encoded or decoded using the determined scan order of the plurality of sub-blocks.

Abstract: An encoding method for encoding blocks of a picture part is disclosed in an embodiment. A reconstructed version of each block of the picture part, called reconstructed block, is determined. A plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters is obtained and an index is determined for each block of the picture part that identifies one of the candidate sets of filter parameters to be used for filtering the block. Each reconstructed block is filtered with the candidate set of filter parameters of the plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters identified by the index. The plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters, the blocks of the picture part and the index for each block are encoded in a bitstream. Advantageously, a plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters are determined such as to minimize a rate-distortion cost for each block of the picture part. For each block of the picture part, an index is determined that identifies one of the plurality of candidate sets of filter parameters to be used for filtering the block such as to minimize a rate-distortion cost for the block. The filter parameters of each candidate set of the plurality of candidate sets are refined using the reconstructed version of the blocks whose index identifies the candidate set.

Abstract: Different implementations are described for determining one or more illumination compensation parameters for a current block being encoded by a video encoder or decoded by a video decoder. A plurality of motion vectors for a current block being encoded in a picture are determined. One or more illumination compensation parameters for each of the plurality of motion vectors are determined and encoded or decoded. The current block is then encoded or decoded using the plurality of motion vectors and the one or more illumination compensation parameters for each of the plurality of motion vectors. In one embodiment, a flag is used to signal the use or not of the illumination compensation. In another embodiment, the illumination compensation flag is not encoded or decoded if illumination compensation is not used.

Abstract: The invention relates to layered depth data. In multi-view images, there is a large amount of redundancy between images. Layered Depth Video format is a well-known formatting solution for formatting multi-view images which reduces the amount of redundant information between images. In LDV, a reference central image is selected and information brought by other images of the multi-view images that are mainly regions occluded in the central image are provided. However, LDV format contains a single horizontal occlusion layer, and thus fails rendering viewpoints that uncover multiple layers dis-occlusions. The invention uses light filed content which offers disparities in every directions and enables a change in viewpoint in a plurality of directions distinct from the viewing direction of the considered image enabling to render viewpoints that may uncover multiple layer dis-occlusions which may occurs with complex scenes viewed with wide inter-axial distance.

Abstract: Conventional intra-prediction uses pixels from left and upper neighbour blocks to predict a macroblock (MB). Thus, the MBs must be sequentially processed, since reconstructed left and upper MBs must be available for prediction. In an improved method for encoding Intra predicted MBs, a MB is encoded in two steps: first, a first portion of the MB is encoded independently, without references outside the MB. Pixels of the first portion can be Intra predicted using DC mode. Then, the first portion is reconstructed. The remaining pixels of the MB, being a second portion, are intra predicted from the reconstructed pixels of the first portion and then reconstructed. The first portion comprises at least one column or one row of pixels of the MB. The encoding is applied to at least two Intra predicted MBs per slice, or per picture if no slices are used.

Abstract: At least a method and an apparatus are presented for improving parallelization for wavefront parallel encoding and decoding of luma and chroma components of a vide picture. For example, a luma component and a chroma component of a video picture are independently subdivided into respectively a plurality of luma coding units and a plurality of chroma coding units. A context-based adaptive binary coding context variable is propagated from a previous row to a current row of the independently subdivided plurality of luma coding units, and a context-based adaptive binary coding context variable is propagated from a previous row to a current row of the independently subdivided plurality of chroma coding units. The video picture is encoded or decoded using the propagations to provide the wavefront parallel processing.
