Abstract:
A unitary dental device constructed from a suitable thermoplastic or thermosetting material allowing the dental device to be heat molded by a dental practitioner sitting chair side to a patient. The dental device includes a single-piece, shell-like analog having the appearance of contoured, individual teeth. The dental device may also include a pair of posterior tooth extensions in order to create a custom buccal corridor specifically adapted for the patient. A connection bridge uniformly joins the proximal contact areas intermediate of adjacent teeth to form the unitary shell-like analog. The dental device may be temporarily affixed in the patient's mouth to allow both the patient and the dental practitioner to preview chair side the look of a final smile design with a fully-fabricated dental prosthesis. Once the patient and dentist are satisfied with the particular tooth selection and characterization, the dental prosthesis can be fabricated from the dental device.
Abstract:
A scalable cross-protocol mechanism is provided for describing, transmitting and checking large lists of authorizations for operations on network resources. At an authorization server, data is stored that represents operations that can be performed on a plurality of resources of a service provider at the request of one or more users. A set of {resource, operations} tuples is generated, wherein a resource describes an endpoint for a network service and operations is a list of operations that are authorized on an endpoint. The set of {resource, operations} tuples is partitioned into one or more subsets. A subset of the set of {resource, operations} tuples is combined into a string according to a predetermined rule. A hash is then computed, according to a hash function, to generate hash results. Hashes are passed instead of the lists themselves to minimize data transfer and latency.
Abstract:
A vehicle communication system includes a computer processor in communication with persistent and non-persistent memory. The system also includes a local wireless transceiver in communication with the computer processor and configured to communicate wirelessly with a cellular telephone located at the vehicle. The system further includes a backup power circuit comprising a charge storage device such as a local battery or capacitor having enough charge to power the computer processor and local wireless transceiver long enough to send an emergency call signal to the cellular telephone, and an emergency call command signal is sent from the local wireless transceiver to the cellular telephone in the event a vehicle emergency is detected at the computer processor and vehicle power is lost. The signal causes the cellular telephone to place or continue an emergency call to an emergency responder or agency over the cellular telephone network.
Abstract:
A roller shade assembly comprises a tubular roller having a generally cylindrical internal cavity, an generally tubular extension telescopically mounted within the internal cavity of the tubular roller, and an outer tube mounted over the extension. The extension includes an outer wall and a plurality of winged splines located around the outer circumference of the outer wall which extend along at least a portion of the length of the extension tube.
Abstract:
A high integrity touch screen system includes, but is not limited to, a display screen, a first sensor array to detect a touch on the display screen and to generate a first set of touch position coordinates, a first processor connected to the first sensor array and configured to receive the first set of touch position coordinates, a second sensor array to detect the touch on the display screen and to generate a second set of touch position coordinates and a second processor connected to the second sensor array and configured to receive the second set of touch position coordinates. The first processor and the second processor cooperate to compare the first set of touch position coordinates with the second set of touch position coordinates and to invalidate the touch when the first set of touch position coordinates and the second set of touch position coordinates do not substantially coincide.
Abstract:
A joint-supporting device comprises tensile members extending from above the joint to below it, supplementing the tensile characteristics of the joint's tendons, ligaments, and other structure. The tension members extend between a proximal cuff above the joint to a distal cuff below it, and pass over a pad at the apex of the joint, redirecting the tension members. In order that the cuffs are supported in position so that the tension members can effectively support the joint, they are spaced away from the joint by compression members bearing on proximal and distal bolsters, in turn located positively by the boney structure of the joint. In order that the structure of the invention not interfere overly with the normal function of the joint, the device employs dilatant materials having the property of varying their hardness upon motion. The dilatant material is disposed so as to limit the relative angular velocity of the members of the joint. The dilatant material can be disposed in pad form, arranged to be compressed by the tensile members as the joint is extended, and/or as the core of a composite tensile member, sheathed in a cover woven of high tensile strength filaments or yarns.
Abstract:
A system, method, and computer program for selecting modifications to a solid model that is manipulated in a computer having software instructions, comprising a computer system, wherein the computer system includes a memory, a processor, a user input device, and a display device; a computer generated geometric model stored in the memory in the memory of the computer system; and wherein the computer system selects a selecting point on a modification feature directly on a solid model using a computer peripheral input; sorts by distance a plurality of adjacent faces that are adjacent to a selection face determined by the selecting point; determines whether a convex condition exists wherein the plurality of adjacent faces are convex to the selection face; determines whether a candidate curves exists where the plurality of adjacent faces share a same surface with a previously visited face and the convex condition exists; imprints the candidate curve on the solid model to prepare the solid model for modification according to a modification intent from a user; modifies the solid model according to the modification intent that results in a modified solid model and modified visual display information; and displays the modified solid model using the modified visual display information to the user, and appropriate means and computer-readable instructions.
Abstract:
A protein analysis instrument and method are disclosed. The method includes mixing a binding dye composition and a protein sample using a homogenizer, measuring a parameter selected from the group consisting of the speed of the homogenizer and the resistance of the mixture to the homogenizer, adjusting the speed of the homogenizer based upon the measured parameter, pumping unreacted dye composition from the mixture and to a calorimeter, and measuring the absorbance of the dye composition in the calorimeter. Aspects of the invention also include inserting a spout into a sample cup at a position where the spout opening is positioned to avoid foam and precipitate generated by the mixing step and above the bottom of the sample cup and thereafter pumping the dye composition from the mixture in the sample cup through the spout and to a colorimeter.
Abstract:
A piston configured to be received within a syringe is disclosed. The piston includes a valve body defining a proximal end and a distal end, a filter disposed within the proximal end of the valve body, and a valve disk disposed within the distal end of the valve body. As the piston is advanced through the syringe, the valve disk is configured to provide fluid flow through the valve body.
