Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an apparatus for detecting low level pulses of millimeter wave electromagnetic radiation including: i) an electromagnetic field receiver including: a receiving antenna configured to receive an input signal at one or more frequencies ranging from 10 GHz to 100 GHz, and a diode detector coupled to the receiving antenna, the diode detector providing an output voltage signal in response to the input signal; ii) an electronic signal processor including: at least two operational amplifiers cascaded sequentially and configured to receive the output voltage signal from the electromagnetic field receiver and to produce an amplified voltage signal, an envelope detection circuit configured to receive the amplified voltage signal and to produce a reduced bandwidth, unipolar voltage signal proportional to a peak power of the input signal, and at least one low frequency operational amplifier configured to receive the reduced bandwidth, unipolar voltage signal and to produce an amplified reduced bandwidth, unipolar voltage signal, wherein at least the electronic signal processor is encased in an electronically shielded housing, and wherein the input signal is a pulse from a millimeter wave scanner, and the pulse has an electric field strength of at least 0.02 V/m with a duration of at least 5 microseconds. A hand-held portable apparatus for detecting low levels of electromagnetic radiation as well as a method for detecting low levels of electromagnetic radiation are also provided.

Abstract: In an example, a monitoring method for screening an individual, the monitoring method comprising: performing a pre-checkpoint monitoring of a stance of the individual as the individual's stance to collect baseline data including weight distribution and balance of the individual as the individual's weight distribution and balance; performing a pre-scanning monitoring of the individual's stance at a scanning system at a checkpoint to collect pre-scanning monitoring data prior to scanning the individual by the scanning system; and comparing the pre-scanning monitoring data with the baseline data to determine whether the pre-scanning monitoring data falls below a pre-scanning threshold with respect to the baseline data, the individual resetting the individual's stance at the scanning system until the pre-scanning monitoring data is below the pre-scanning threshold with respect to the baseline data before scanning the individual at the scanning system.

Abstract: In an example, a system to modify a severe weather vortex comprises a controller configured to specify initial conditions for formation of the severe weather vortex, model the severe weather vortex with equations of fluid dynamics based on the initial conditions to produce a simulated severe weather vortex, and computationally add energy to a vortex generation area at an upper part of the simulated severe weather vortex to modify the simulated severe weather vortex to disrupt at least one of the formation or a travel path of the simulated severe weather vortex. A steerable mirror is oriented to focus solar energy from the sun at a vortex generation area at an upper part of the severe weather vortex based on the energy computationally added to modify the simulated severe weather vortex.
