A film feeding apparatus for a camera to feed a film from a cartridge is so structured that preparatory wind-up starts not immediately after a close signal indicating that a rear cover is closed is generated, but after a predetermined delay time elapses from generation of the close signal, i.e., after the rear cover is completely closed. The film feeding apparatus will not undesirably expose a film even if a rear cover detection switch is operated before a rear cover is completely closed.

This invention provides a motor drive mechanism for driving a camera having an automatic exposure control circuit. The motor drive mechanism has a trigger button adapted to be depressed for rotating the motor for releasing the shutter and for winding-up operation consisting of film winding, and simultaneous shutter and mirror charging, and a first switch to be closed in response to the depression of the trigger button for actuating the automatic exposure control circuit. The improved motor drive mechanism of this invention has a detecting means to detect the rotation of the motor for releasing the shutter and the rotation of the motor for the winding-up operation, a second switch connected in parallel with the first switch and closed as the detecting means detects the rotation of the motor for shutter release operation and opened as the detecting means detects the rotation of the motor for winding-up operation. Thus the power supply to the automatic exposure control circuit is ensured even when the trigger button is released from the depression before exposure is finished.

Disclosed is a lens barrel capable of restraining an error of an inter-lens spacing accuracy in a lens frame down to several .mu.m or under. The lens barrel has a plurality of lenses, and a lens frame for holding these lenses at predetermined intervals to make optical axes of the lenses coincident. Provided are at least three steel balls contiguous to lens surfaces, facing to each other, of the two lenses among those lenses. The three steel balls are disposed so that the centers of the steel balls are positioned on the same circumference about the lens optical axis. The steel balls are in contact with substantially trisected portions along an inner peripheral surface having an inside diametrical dimension smaller than a maximum inside diameter portion formed in the lens frame. The lens frame is provided with wall portions for regulating motions of the steel balls in the circumferential and radial directions.

A real image viewfinder of an optical device includes an eye piece through which an optical axis may be viewed with respect to a target frame. The target frame may be used for centering an optical image on an image forming plane and also for autofocus of the optical device. The real image viewfinder includes a first prism for redefining an optical axis within the optical device. The first prism has a pair of reflective planes joined about a first ridge line. The first ridge line generally includes a number of manufacturing flaws which are noticeable by the photographer. Thus, viewfinder components are shifted by a predetermined amount to present the first ridge line in an area of the viewfinder which is different from the target frame as viewed through the eye piece. Likewise, the real image viewfinder includes a second prism having a second ridge line which is also shifted away from the target frame as viewed through the eye piece.

A miniaturized collapsible zoom camera changes viewfinder magnification in accordance with a change in the photographic magnification. The camera is equipped with a collapsible cam tube to cause a first lens group, which rotates around the optical axis, to move from a collapsed position to a position just before a minimum magnification position. Likewise, a zoom cam tube causes the first lens group, which rotates around the optical axis, to move from the minimum magnification position to a maximum magnification position. Sector gears are formed on the outer circumference of the collapsible cam tube and the zoom cam tube. Furthermore, the camera is equipped with a cam tube drive gear which cooperates with the sector gears. A drive motor causes the drive gear to rotate. Another gear cooperates only with the sector gear of the zoom cam tube while a variable power and movement mechanism causes variable power operation in the viewfinder.

A device for detecting perforations in film includes a camera body or other optical instrument body. A pressure plate is disposed at a rear of the body and has a channel that allows access of a sensor output to detect and read film position via the recognition of such perforations in the moving film as it passes through the camera or optical instrument body. The pressure plate maintains the alignment of the film relative to the body. An installation board is aligned and mounted adjacent a rear of the pressure plate. A sensor is attached to the installation board. The sensor is disposed to face a section of the film having perforations through the channel of the pressure plate as the film moves along a film path. The sensor transmits electronic signals corresponding to the position of perforations of the film as the film moves along the film path. The invention provides for the efficient and economical construction of a device having a sensor for detecting perforations in film.
