Abstract:
A sunroof assembly (20) of an automotive vehicle employs dual sunroof panes, a pair of movable sunshades and a control system for operating the function thereof. In one aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly provides a substantially transparent front pane (22) which is slidable from a covering position to a retracted position and a substantially transparent rear pane (24) movable from a covering position to an open position. In another aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly (20) provides a pair of substantially transparent panes in combination with a front sunshade (26) and a rear sunshade (28). The sunshades are movable from a functional position to a stowed position. In a further aspect of the present invention, a control system (32) provides an electric switch assembly (30), electrical circuit and software for operating the panes and sunshades.
Abstract:
A lightweight rack structure is provided for use in a space station. The rack includes a deployable/folding rigid front frame including two side rails and upper and lower cross members connected to the two side rails. A flexible shell is connected to the front frame. The shell includes an upper wall portion, a lower wall portion, a pair of side wall portions and a rear wall portion. Support members are provided to support the flexible shell in a deployed position.
Abstract:
A detection circuit for use in an electrical power converter having at least one negative output rail, for detecting the voltage of the negative output rail and for converting the voltage to a positive output voltage. The detection circuit includes an input port for receiving the negative output rail voltage from an electrical power converter, an output port, a ground reference potential, a node having a voltage that is positive with respect to the ground reference potential, and a circuit for generating a measurement current from the node to the ground reference potential. The value of this measurement current is a function of the negative output rail voltage received at the input port. A circuit is further provided for generating an output voltage at the output port that is positive with respect to said ground reference potential and whose value is a function of said measurement current. The detection circuit can be used with conventional pulse-width modulators of switch mode power supplies in order to regulate the value of the negative rail voltage.
Abstract:
An apparatus for clamping, folding and transferring a stack of flexible plastic bag products such as a stack of zippered plastic bags. The apparatus can be retrofitted in existing bag sealers used for producing and packaging a stack of plastic bags in order to produce novel shallower plastic bag products.
Abstract:
An electronic camera is provided as a module that attaches to the signal bus of a PC-compatible computer. The camera includes a minimum of components, particularly an image sensor and an A/D converter, and a PC-compatible interface connector for mating with a bus extension connector on the computer. By directly presenting digitized data from the camera to the signal bus of the computer through the bus connector, the camera can be kept relatively simple and the computer can be relied upon to perform image processing, storage, and display.
Abstract:
A thermally-responsive switch, designed to go open circuit in response to relatively low overload currents of the order of 2 amps and below, comprises a moulded plastics body capturing therein first and second simple copper wire terminals and having an internal chamber wherein a snap-acting bimetal blade of very low thickness is spot-welded to one of the wire terminals and carries a silver contact which co-operates in switching operations with the other wire terminal, the internal construction of the switch body chamber being arranged to provide physical support to the bimetal blade by way of the respective one of the wire terminals to which the bimetal blade is secured.
Abstract:
A Circuit for reversing the direction of current flow in a rectifying device of a power converter during a time interval just prior to when the rectifying device is to be rendered non-conductive is described. The current reversal substantially reduces or eliminates reverse-recovery currents in the rectifying device, which may cause short circuits and needlessly dissipates power. The circuit comprises an energy source, a magnetic storage device, and a switch for coupling the magnetic storage device to the energy source. The magnetic storage device may comprise an inductor or a transformer. The energy source may include a voltage source, the converter's input voltage, the output voltage, or a winding magnetically coupled to another magnetic storage device of the converter. The reversal circuit includes a circuit for coupling the reversing current to the rectifying device such that it partially or completely reverses the flow of current in the rectifying device.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for stacking zippered plastic bags maintains the top bag of the stack in a generally horizontal relationship by controlling the position of a stacking table which supports the stack. At least a portion of the stacking table which supports the stack is gradually pivoted in the area of the bag zippers as a stack forms. Preferably, the stacking table is controlled to also maintain the top of the stack at a generally constant level while the stack is forming.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for continuous cleaning of bag making machinery is provided. A single roll with a cleaning material attached thereto contacts a rotating drum to remove debris from the surface thereof. When the portion of the cleaning material in contact with the drum becomes saturated with debris, the roll is rotated to present fresh cleaning material to the surface of the drum. The compact design of the cleaning apparatus permits its use in the limited space found around bag making machinery.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for supplying gas to a vacuum drum device and which substantially reduces or eliminates the problem of particle and debris buildup in the vacuum passages of the device is provided. The apparatus supplies gas, preferably at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, to the vacuum ports of a vacuum drum and includes a source of vacuum, a source of gas, and a rotatable vacuum drum. The drum includes a plurality of vacuum ports on the surface thereof, with the vacuum ports communicating with a plurality of vacuum passages extending generally outwardly from the interior of the drum. A valve alternately connects the passages to the vacuum source and to the source of gas. The selective exposure of the vacuum ports to either a source of vacuum or a source of gas prevents smoke, particles, and other contaminants from being drawn into the vacuum passages of the drum during operation of the system.
