An analyte detection system utilizing a combination of fluorescent labels for labeling particles and an analyte specific fluorescent analyte detection dye. The particles contain a combination of fluorescent labels for coding the particles and an analyte specific fluorescent dye. The particles can be used to identify and quantify analytes in an analytical sample by reaction of the analytical sample with the particles. An analytical device can identify the particles according to the combination of fluorescent labels. The device can then correlate the identified particle with the analyte specific fluorescent analyte detection dye. Multiple subpopulations of particles can be used to identify and quantify multi-analytes in a single analytical sample. Near infrared (NIR) fluorescent labels useful in the detection system are also provided.

An integrated safety system (20) comprises a rope grab (100), a body engagement device such as a harness (200, 201) or waist belt to be worn by a person (22), a lanyard (104) and lowering device (300). The harness (200, 201), which also constitutes a part of the invention by itself, comprises a compartment (202) for the lowering device (300), and also a first connector (224), a second connector (220) and in one embodiment (201) additionally comprises a third connector (600). The lanyard (104) is securable to the first connector (224) of the harness (200, 201) and to the rope grab (100) to enable the person (22) to be suspended thereby in the event of a fall. The lowering device (300) is stored in the compartment (202) of the harness (200, 201) until needed and is arranged to be mounted on the safety line (28) by the person (22) while the person is suspended thereby after a fall. The second connector (220) of the harness (200, 201) is then readily connectable to the lowering device (300) by the person (22) as he/she is suspended by the rope grab (100). The method of using the safety system also constitutes a part of this invention.

The toe box is adapted for accommodating the toe portion of the boot, while the heel cup is arranged for accommodating the heel portion of the boot. The pair of straps interconnect the toe box and the heel cup along the medial and lateral sides of the boot and are located above the front sole portion and the rear sole portion so that they do not contact the ground when attachment device is in place on the boot. The straps are arranged to be releasably secured together by VELCRO.RTM. or other hook and loop fasteners and can be extend about the upper of the boot to prevent the rear section of the device from becoming disengaged from the boot. The underside of the sole of the attachment device includes ridges and ice-penetrating projections or studs to provide a non-slip surface.

A buckle for a belt or harness comprising a ring member defining a hollow interior space, a slidable bar, and releasable securable lock. The ring member has a first and a second side section, and a first and a second end section, which are connected to one another. The slidable bar is mounted between the side sections and is movable between a position immediately adjacent the first end section and a position immediately adjacent the second end section. The first end section of the buckle is securable to one portion of a web of the belt or harness. A free end portion of a web of the belt or harness is arranged to extend through the ring's interior space between the first end section and the slidable bar, around the bar, and through the space between the bar and the second end section, from which it exits beyond the second end section of the buckle. Pulling on the free end of the web causes the slidable bar with the web section therearound to slide into close proximity with the second end section to fictionally hold the web in place. The lock is a spring biased member arranged to be normally biased in an extended orientation over the slidable bar to tightly engage it and the web portion wrapped therearound and thereby prevent the accidental release thereof. The lock is manually actuable to release the spring biased member, the slidable bar and the web section when desired.

A system for preventing a worker from falling off of a billboard. The system comprises a safety rope and a pair mounting assemblies formed of interconnected links. Each mounting assembly is mounted adjacent a respective side of the billboard and comprises a connector connected between the links for securing the rope thereto. Each of the mounting assemblies is movable between and stowed position and an extended position and vice versa. Each connector is located closely adjacent the rear surface of the billboard when its associated mounting assembly is in the stowed position, and is located spaced in front of the front of the billboard when its associated mounting assembly is in the extended position. The rope is connected tautly between the connectors when the mounting assemblies are in the extended position to serve as a sliding anchor point to which a safety device, e.g., safety belt or harness, worn by a worker may be releasably secured.
