摘要: A plasma display panel is a pure linear display and does not provide a non-linear gamma behaviour like a CRT so that an artificial gamma function has to be applied to the signal in digital form. This gamma function increases the quantization steps in the dark areas whereas the quantization steps will be reduced in the luminous areas. The basic idea is to apply an adaptive noise filtering after the gammatization process. The adaptive filtering is a specific filtering which is adapted to the gammatization quantization noise. In other words, the filtering will be maximum for dark areas and its efficacy will be automatically decreased when the luminance of the area is increasing.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for generating subfield codes for pictures displayed on a display device like plasma display panels (PDPs) or display devices wherein the grey level of the pixels of the pictures displayed by the display device is obtained by modulating the number of light pulses per frame or sustain pulses (PWM for Pulse Width Modulation), the number of sustain pulses per subfield of the frame depending on the power average level of the picture to be displayed. The video levels of the pictures are first transcoded into luminance codes and then coded into subfield codes. In order to reduce the memory size required for implementing this transcoding, offset values between luminance codes are stored in a look-up table instead of storing the luminance codes. The luminance codes are then regenerated in the controller of the display device.

摘要: For improving the grey scale portrayal, several dithering methods are used: Cell-based dithering, multi-mask dithering or error diffusion. Each of them has specific disadvantages. A simple combination of them does not bring expected advantages. However, an improvement is obtained if the result of the multi-mask dithering is used for controlling the error diffusion by a switch, for example.

摘要: A universal Power Timing Controller (PTC) unit intended for controlling the image memory and the line power boards of a Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is discribed. The PTC is responsible for generating control signals for the power boards of the PDP in order that they produce the correct waveforms (e.g. priming, erasing, addressing, sustaining . . . ) to be applied on the lines of cells of the PDP and control signals for the image memory of the PDP. According to the invention, the PTC has a fully programmable structure. The PTC comprises programmable memories or LUTs (look-up tables) in which the data defining the display mode of the panel and data defining elementary control signals required by the line power boards for processing operations associated to each phase period of the frame are stored.

摘要: An improved addressing scheme for plasma display panel control comprises partitioning the panel into a number of sections and splitting the addressing period into correspondingly small addressing periods for each section. By varying the time distance between successive addressing periods of the sections from one sub-field to the other, at least for the sub-fields with higher weights, a better spread of the energy input and output of the plasma display panel is achieved and the power supply circuit for the display panel may be constructed with less expensive components.

摘要: Video signals of interlaced form are first converted to progressive scan (non-interlaced) form and then picture elements are generated that lie between the "progressive" picture elements and are interpolated by a vertical one-half (1/2) line shuffling by application of a vertical averaging. The interpolated picture elements are buffer stored and are read out again at twice the frame repetition rate whereby each second line of the stored interpolated picture elements is emitted delayed in time by 10 milli-seconds. Fields in the format 100 Hz, 2:1 interlace thereby ensue. Advantageously, interpolated picture elements are used in all of the output fields thereby avoiding picture disturbences at the frame rate (25 Hz) of the original video signal. For increasing the subjective vertical sharpness, a vertical peaking may additionally be carried out.

摘要: Method and apparatus for reducing driver energy consumption of drivers of a display device each supplied by an input codeword as e.g. for data drivers of a plasma display panel supplied by sequences of subfield data bits in form of a codeword comprising a predetermined number of bits are recommended, wherein the apparatus comprises a driver transition energy limitation circuit for toggling bits of the input codeword applied to the driver transition energy limitation circuit and providing a codeword reducing the driver energy consumption. A toggle map, which is generated from a combination of a transition map determining a bit in the input codeword if toggled reduces energy consumption and a flag map determining a number of least significant bits exceeding a cell energy limit value, is applied to an input codeword for the driver to toggle bits of said input codeword for reducing driver energy consumption without a perceivable image quality degradation. Method and apparatus are advantageously applicable for driver overheat protection and eco mode to reduce driver energy consumption without a perceivable image quality degradation.

摘要: A device for correcting a defect pixel value of a CMOS image sensor unit is proposed, the image sensor unit comprising at least a first and a second pixel array. The image sensor unit is arranged to project the same image onto each pixel array. The correcting device comprises at least a first and a second input channel for receiving pixel values of the first and the second pixel array, respectively. The processing device is operable to replace the defect pixel value by a corrected pixel value, which is determined from values of neighboring pixels to the defect pixel of the same pixel array. The corrected pixel value is evaluated with respect to values of a corresponding pixel and its neighboring pixels of the second pixel array at the same location as the defect pixel of the first pixel array in respect to the projected image.

摘要: A method and a device for encoding the video level of a pixel of a picture into a subfield code word in a display device using a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology and subfields for displaying video picture. The bits of the subfield code word are computed recursively one after the other from the bit having the most significant weight to the bit having the least significant weight. In determining the state of a bit of the subfield code word, a first threshold and a second threshold is associated with the bit, the second threshold being greater than the first threshold, and the video level to be encoded by this bit and its following bits in the subfield code word are compared to the first and second thresholds. A state is allocated to the bit based on the comparison.
