An edge-sealed, encapsulated environmentally sensitive device. The device includes an environmentally sensitive device, and at least one edge-sealed barrier stack. The edge-sealed barrier stack includes a decoupling layer and at least two barrier layers. The environmentally sensitive device is sealed between an edge-sealed barrier stack and either a substrate or another edge-sealed barrier stack. A method of making the edge-sealed, encapsulated environmentally sensitive device is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Tissue fixation devices are provided. The devices include a first component and a second component, the components having different rates of in vivo degradation. The first component and second component are arranged so that, upon degradation of one of the components, the other component provides a scaffold into which bone can grow.
Abstract:
A fast-drying pillow and accompanying pillow cover. The fast-drying pillow is preferably manufactured of a fast-drying material such as nylon. The pillow includes a component for receiving a suspension device to enable the pillow to be suspended for air drying. The pillow cover includes overlapping flaps to minimize the infiltration of dirt into the cover and onto the pillow.
Abstract:
A network that uses XML-based resource data structures. The network comprises: i) a plurality of network elements; 2) a configuration manager for managing and configuring the plurality of network elements; and iii) a plurality of resource data structures suitable for configuring the plurality of network elements of the network. Each of the resource data structures is implemented using extensible Markup Language (XML) code.
Abstract:
A damper that is mounted to a printed circuit board of an automobile's climate control system includes a tactile feel and torque control mechanism for the user as the user controls the temperature and climate within the interior of an automobile. The damper incorporates a plurality of detents that engage with a plurality of ribs or similar protrusions for providing the desired tactile feel and torque control in the control knob of the climate control system. The printed circuit board used with the automobile's climate control system has an integrated polymer thick film (PTF) circuit that replaces the traditional circuit board technology, thereby eliminating the need for separately mounted potentiometers and resistors as those items can be printed onto the polymer circuit. The printed circuit board is less expensive to manufacture over existing circuit board technology, is easier to assemble, results in fewer parts, and is environmentally friendly as no soldering of components is required. In addition, the invention is impervious to cleaning processes and solutions and is more durable over other known systems and technologies.
Abstract:
In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method for inline intrusion detection includes receiving a packet at a physical interface of an intrusion detection system. The packet is tagged with a first VLAN identifier associated with an external network. The network further includes buffering the packet at the physical interface, communicating a copy of the packet to a processor, and analyzing the copy of the packet at the processor to determine whether the packet includes an attack signature. The method also includes communicating a reply message from the processor to the interface indicating whether the packet includes an attack signature. If the packet does not contain an attack signature the buffered copy of the packet is re-tagged with a second VLAN identifier associated with a protected network and re-tagged packet is communicated to the protected network.
Abstract:
A first object-oriented telecommunication device that communicates with a second object-oriented telecommunication device in the communication network. The first object-oriented telecommunication device comprises: 1) a plurality of objects executable by processing circuitry associated with the first object-oriented telecommunication device; and 2) an object conduit management information base (MIB) manager for gathering data from one or more of the plurality of objects and generating therefrom a management information base (MIB) data structure suitable for communicating with the second object-oriented telecommunication device using a specified protocol interface, such as Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
Abstract:
A multilayer breathable moisture management and compressive device, having a laminate material that includes a thin, hydrophillic polyurethane foam coated on both surfaces with an adhesive. A stretchable elastomeric polymer layer is bonded to each of the adhesive surfaces. The polymer layers preferably are microfibers having a greater number of filaments on a skin engaging side than on an opposite side thereof. The resulting device draws moisture from the skin whereby moisture generated by the underlying skin is absorbed into the device and is thereafter conveyed into the polyurethane foam and then into the outer polymer layer such that the moisture is permitted to evaporate from the surface of the device. The device may be used as a sleeve for providing compression especially during exercise or may be used as a wound dressing or the like, providing moisture management and/or heat retention under compression.
Abstract:
The invention disclosed herein relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a carrier and an active ingredient, wherein the carrier is fish gelatin and the composition is a fast-dispersing dosage form designed to release the active ingredient rapidly on contact with a fluid. In one embodiment, the composition is designed for oral administration and releases the active ingredient rapidly in the oral cavity on contact with saliva. The fish gelatin can be obtained from cold water fish sources and is preferably the non-gelling, non-hydrolyzed form. A process for preparing such a composition and a method of using fish gelatin in a fast dispersing dosage form are also provided.
Abstract:
A system for testing the electrical components of vehicles during manufacturing includes a hand held tester to which a translator unit can be detachably engaged and with which the tester is in RF communication. The translator unit can be detached from the tester and plugged into a test receptacle under a vehicle's dashboard to communicate with the vehicle by translating computer formatted data from the tester to vehicle bus-formatted data, and vice-versa. Then, the vehicle's VIN is scanned into the tester or manually input into the tester, and the tester transmits the VIN via an RF link in the assembly plant to a computer in the plant. Based on the VIN, the computer determines the electric equipment that the vehicle has, and the computer transmits this information back to the tester. The tester then determines which tests to execute, and the tester causes the translator unit to undertake these tests. The translator transmits the test results back to the tester which in turn transmits the results to the computer. A portable current module can be provided that monitors the current drawn from the vehicle's battery during the testing and for communicating this data to the tester via RF link.
