To realize a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine having a heating resistor type air flow rate measuring apparatus which can effectively remove salinity adhered to the heating resistor. Salt adheres not only to the heating portion of a heating resistor but also to lead members and supporting members. When a certain time period is passed after the current supply to the heating resistor is stopped, the salt adhered thereto absorbs moisture in the air by deliquescence, and becomes salt water near the heating resistor and the support members etc. Then, suction air flows through an auxiliary air passage by the cranking of the engine to disperse the salt water adhered not only to the support member parts but also to the heating resistor. Thus, even if the heating resistor is supplied with current after the dissipation, salt components do not remain on the heating resistor.

The slit hole may be arranged between the flow rate detecting element and the outlet port part, and may be opened between a wall surface side and a recess part. Thereby, it is possible to prevent the output value from falling in the negative side upon rise-up thereof.

A power transistor 1 is mounted on a metallic power supply terminal 40 within an intake pipe 20, individually and separately from an electronic circuit board 7 on which other electronic circuit element are mounted. This power supply terminal 40 acts as a terminal for electric power input and its one portion is exposed within the gas path of the intake pipe 20. The heat-generation of the power transistor 1 is effectively heat-generated by the metallic terminal 40 without giving a remarkable effect to the other circuit elements. With this, it is possible to reduce any heat effect to the other electronic circuit components due to the self heat-generation of the power transistor 1 without the additional number of parts and to effectuate the gas flow rate measuring apparatus of which measuring accuracy and reliability are high.

The apparatus measures the mass airflow of the air sucked into the internal combustion engine, using the heating resistor 1. The power control circuit 4 maintains the heating resistor 1 temperature equal to or higher than the temperature during the operation of the internal combustion engine after the internal combustion engine has stopped and until the temperature of the internal combustion engine and its apparatuses installed in the suction system has lowered below the generation temperature of volatile gas such as oil vapor. The power control circuit 4, using the temperature sensing resistor 2 that detects the temperature of the air sucked into the combustion engine, detects the air temperature and maintains the heating resistor 1 temperature, based on the temperature measured, equal to or higher than the temperature during the operation of the internal combustion engine even after the internal combustion engine has stopped.

A cross-sectional area of a connection portion between the casing and the duct, taken perpendicularly to the direction of air flow is the minimum cross-sectional area in the duct.

An air flow rate measuring device for measuring intake air flow rate in an automotive engine, improved to reduce any error attributable to variation in the configurations of air cleaner and/or duct forming air passage upstream of the flow rate measuring device, thus offering high accuracy of the flow rate measurement. In one aspect of the invention, the inlet opening of a sub-air passage is disposed to contain the axis of a main air passage, while the outlet opening of the sub-air passage is disposed in the vicinity of a wall defining the main air passage. In order to cause a local reduction of the pressure of the principal of the air flow at the outlet opening, a protrusion or a flat surface which causes impediment to the flow if air in the main air passage is provided immediately upstream of the outlet opening. In another aspect, the inlet surface in which the inlet of the sub-air passage opens is stepped in the direction of flow of the air so as to enable air to be introduced into air flow rate measuring portion in the sub-air passage from different regions in the main air passage while giving a preselected order of preference to these different regions.
