摘要： This invention is a recording head cartridge which includes a plurality of inks having a density difference for an ink of one color, includes recording heads on a single substrate or in an adjacent aligned state, and integrates ink tanks for the plurality of inks, so as to reliably perform gradation recording while achieving a simple control circuit, and improvement in operability upon replacement. This invention also provides a structure in which ink tanks in the cartridge are integrated to determine a light/depth printing order, and have different volumes so as to improve advantages of replacement.

摘要： The present invention involves an ink jet recording method involving providing a movable carriage and a plurality of ink jet recording heads disposed on the carriage, each ink jet recording head having a number of ink discharge energy generating elements and a corresponding number of discharge ports for recording a recording region, and applying driving signals to at least a fraction of the ink discharge energy generating elements corresponding to a fraction of the plural number of the discharge ports. Additionally, at the start of recording the number of the recording heads which are used during recording of a particular region is increased, and then at the conclusion of recording the quantity of recording heads which are used during recording of the particular region are decreased. This particular region has a length relating to the feeding pitch of the recording medium.

Alternatively, the recording head can be driven by comparing identification information read out from a second memory with recording head identification information stored in a first memory, and selectively driving the recording head using second shading correction data read out from the second memory or first shading correction data read out from the first memory, depending upon whether two types of recording head identification information are equal.

摘要： An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a detachably mountable ink jet cartridge including an ink jet recording head for ejecting ink into a recording medium and an ink supply source containing ink for supply to the recording apparatus, which ink supply source has electrodes for passing an electric current through the ink in said ink supply source. A resistance-determining circuit determines a reference resistance between the electrodes by applying an electric current thereto when the ink jet cartridge is mounted to the apparatus and determines a test resistance between the electrodes by applying the same electric current thereto after a predetermined amount of recording. The reference resistance is used to calculate a threshold resistance, which is stored for comparison to the test resistance to judge whether or not the amount of ink in the ink supply source has dropped to a level unsuitable for recording.
