Abstract: There is disclosed a first method for a UE, wherein the UE is in 5GMM-CONNECTED mode with RRC inactive indication. The first method comprises: establishing a PDU session for sending data over the control plane; determining that there is data to be sent in an UL NAS TRANSPORT message; in response to the determining, requesting lower layers to resume an RRC connection; and upon receiving a fallback indication from the lower layers in response to the requesting, entering 5GMM-IDLE mode. Also disclosed is a second method for a UE, wherein the UE is in 5GMM-CONNECTED mode with RRC inactive indication. The second method comprises: establishing a PDU session for sending data over the user plane; determining that there is user data to be sent over the user plane; determining that there is no pending NAS procedure; and upon receiving a fallback indication from the lower layers, in response to the determining, entering 5GMM-IDLE mode. Also disclosed is a third method for a UE, wherein the UE is in 5GMM-CONNECTED mode with RRC inactive indication. The third method comprises: in response to receiving, from lower layer, a suspend indication, determining the type of the suspend indication; and entering a NAS mode according to the determined type of the suspend indication.

The method includes receiving a NAS message indicating registration accept or registration reject with a reject cause. The reject cause indicating a S-NSSAI is not available in a subset of a current registration area where the reject cause is applied for a S-NSSAI. In an example, the method includes storing the rejected S-NSSAI in a rejected NSSAI for the subset of the current registration area. In another example, the method includes deleting a current registration area based on the subset of the current registration area where the reject cause is applied for the S-NSSAI. The UE considers a S-NSSAI part of the requested NSSAI as not applicable to current tracking area and S-NSSAI part of the requested NSSAI is allowed outside current tracking area.

A method for handling a Non access stratum (NAS) procedure (e.g., service request (SR) procedure or the like) by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless network is provided. The method includes triggering the SR procedure and determining a transmission failure of the SR or a control plane service request message in response to triggering the SR procedure. Further, the method includes determining whether the SR procedure is triggered for a reason comprising one of requesting the wireless network to release a NAS signaling connection, and rejecting a paging request from the wireless network, or requesting the wireless network to release the NAS signaling connection. Further, the method includes performing one of aborting the SR procedure triggered due to the reason in response to determining the transmission failure, or re-triggering the SR procedure triggered not due to the reason in response to determining the transmission failure.
